Starring Mackenzie Davis and Caitlin Fitzgerald as ‘so-called friends’, Always Shine is an example of what can happen when jealousy between friends gets out of control.
Davis’s portrayal of a jealous friend is definitely my favourite thing about Always Shine. Neither of the two lead characters comes across as perfect. Yet, up until this point, I don’t think I’d ever seen a friendship up close, that was so poisonous and shady. Davis, Fitzgerald and director Sophia Takal did a good job of creating tension.
Admittedly, towards the end I did get quite lost in regards to precisely what was going on and all that it meant. Still, I say, watch Always Shine for Davis’s very memorable performance and maybe you will kindly explain to me what the end is all about.
