Starring Will Smith, Naomi Scott, Mena Massoud and Billy Magnussen, finally, the new Aladdin trailer shows us what will smith will look and sound like as the famous genie…
Overall, I like this trailer and my favourite moment in it is the sight of Naomi Scott as Jasmine. What I can’t deny though is my immediate reaction after seeing Smith as the the genie. An undeniable sense that a massive miscasting may have taken place definitely came over me. However, I’ve decided to ignore that feeling and wait to see how the film actually is.
I of course wish that my reaction was undoubtedly positive and filled with excitement – both for the entirety of the trailer and afterwards. Nevertheless, who knows, perhaps I’ll look back and wonder what I was worried about in the first place, once I’m watching director Guy Ritchie’s movie. He is the man behind my favourite British film of all time after all… Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels (1998).
Numan Acar, Kamil Lemieszewski, Nasim Pedrad, Marwan Kenzari and Navid Negahban also star.
Aladdin Release Dates: May 24th, 2019 (US & UK)…

Haha that’s pretty fun look for Will Smith! 🙂
‘Fun’ is one word for it. I just wish it were fun in a way that wasn’t quite so distracting. 🤓
Distracting? 😛
Distracting because Smith isn’t most people’s first choice. Therefore instead of enjoying the movie, when he’s on screen many may be thinking ‘why, oh, why didn’t they cast someone else?’ 🤓
ooh! I see what you mean! 🙂
Distracting to me in that it looks “fake” even though it is CGI…kind of like when Bruce Banner was in the suit at the end of the last Avengers movie.
Yes, you’re right! There’s also that. 😁 I actually had a similar thought when I looked at the fur on young Simba’s body during the trailer for the live-action Lion King movie.
Who knows, maybe the genie will look more convincing when the film is properly finished. Let’s hope!
This “film” is so wrong on so many levels. Why is Disney doing this? I think Amal Clooney would have been the perfect Jasmine if only she were an actress and younger 🙂
I can just picture Amal in the role.😊 It will be interesting how this all turns out. Hopefully it won’t end up being like John Carter, that Taylor Kitsch Disney movie that did badly some years ago.
Aladdin probably has too big a following for things to be that bad because many of the world’s children are going to want to see this film.🤓
