New crime/drama/thriller series, Black Bird has Taron Egerton as Jimmy Keene, a man sentenced to 10 years in a minimum-security prison. A sentence that could be reduced to zero, if he’d just do one not quite so little thing.
Keene must elicit a confession from Larry Hall (Paul Walter Hauser,) a suspected serial killer, all so that the FBI can find the bodies of as many as eighteen women.
I can’t even begin to guess if Keene will get out of this alive, especially knowing how prisonguards in TV shows and movies tend to stir up trouble and inappropriately exercise their power. Then there’s the assumption that the FBI care whether Keene survives. I mean, he does seem to be, you know, a full-on criminal.
I’m into this because of the cast and this rather well-edited trailer, even if it is tinged with some sadness since Liotta is no longer with us.
I see a pair of perfectly rich roles for Egerton and Hauser, plus some incredibly tense scenes coming our way. Scenes that are ideal for fans of great prison dramas and mob/crime stories. The only question now is, are you ready?
Greg Kinnear, Ray Liotta, Sepideh MoafiTrazi Lashawn, Christopher B. DuncanJake McLaughlin, Robert Diago DoQui, Alexander Babara, Cecilia Leal and Rachel Whitman Groves also star.
Black Bird Release Dates: July 8th, 2022, Apple TV+

There’s the story, the performances. There’s also Taron Egerton in a suit. That is all.
I certainly cannot argue with that. 😁
This sounds really good (there seems to be lots of good series on Apple TV recently so might have to look into getting it at some point)
Agreed, Apple TV+ is focusing a lot on high quality content. My favourite thing they’ve done so far is the first seasons of Ted Lasso and The Morning Show. There’s still more I have to see though, just as soon as I make the time.🤓
I can see Hauser as a creepy serial killer!
what on earth do you mean? 😁
He’s certainly delivered some great performances so far, and it looks as though this will be added to that list. I look forward to hearing him speak some more using that very specific voice.
Whoa. This might give me nightmares! I might see it though, for Liota. 😔
Nightmares are indeed a possibility. But also, yes, Liotta. His words at the start are just so heartbreaking. All the emotion in those few words had me hooked.
I’m also interested because of how different this role is for Egerton, who was first introduced to me and most of the world in quite the glorious fashion in Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014).
Wow Love the trailer. And the premise pulls me right in. This should be fun! But creepy!
Agreed about the creepy fun coming to us. May it unfold as impressively as we expect. 🤓🙏
This looks very intense!! But I do love Taron Egerton so will likely be watching tihs one.
I agree on both counts. I can’t wait to see Egerton flex his acting chops. And I love the subtle way his face changed when the agent asked ‘How about freedom?’ 👏 👏 🤓
I’ll probably watch this one. Have you seen Kingdom, the MMA series with Frank Grillo? Hauser plays Keith in it and I think he would make a good psycho/serial killer in this one.
I haven’t seen Kingdom but yeah, some people can more easily achieve the look and demeanour of the psycho. 😁
Look at Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin all grown up. 😀
Great trailer.
Yes, and what a beautiful transformation. 🤓
