THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 2 (2015): A Second Teaser Trailer

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 (2015), Jennifer Lawrence

After last month’s release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 teaser trailer, I thought we’d see approximately 2 more trailers before the November release date. Not so, because here comes, yes, another teaser.

No one is going to blame you if the following thoughts went through your head as you watched.

  1. Whose music video is this?
  2. Really? Another teaser?
  3. Ok. I want that red suit!
  4. Is white really the best colour for combat gear?

Before deciding to patiently (not so patiently) wait for November, you first need to stop imagining the people in white performing a very impressive street dance routine and Katniss Everdeen lip synching lyrics that include the words, ‘red’, ‘white’ and ‘unite’.

Good luck with that.

Happy The Hunger Games, Mockingjay, Part 2 🙂

FANTASTIC FOUR (2015): May The Movie Live Up To Its Name

Fantastic Four (2015), Miles Teller

How did I not feature the Fantastic Four trailer sooner? Slight super hero movie fatigue perhaps…

Whatever the answer, I’m doing it now because it is rather well done. My favourite moment being when Reed Richards/ Mr. Fantastic looks up and down to his right. Isn’t slow motion a beautiful thing?

With some of the most talented Actors of young Hollywood, Fantastic Four is an interesting super hero movie about – you guessed it, saving humanity. This new reboot is directed by Josh Trank and stars Miles Teller, Michael B Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell.

Trailer 1…

Final Trailer…

I’ll be ready come the August (2015) release date.

Happy Fantastic Four 🙂

THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 2 (2015): Bring On The End

Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Sam Claflin, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland and Julianne Moore, the trailer for the final installment of The Hunger Games films is here…

In this Francis Lawrence directed finale, one thing is clear, President Snow’s reign must end. I really do  hope that it’s a spectacle as exciting as can be.

How true is the idea that President Snow is probably the worst possible Santa Claus anyone could ever imagine.

Happy The Hunger Games, Mockingjay, Part 2 🙂

EX MACHINA (2015): Vikander’s Portrayal Will Leave You Wanting More

Ex Machina (2015), Alicia Vikander
Ex Machina (2015), Alicia Vikander

Ex Machina comes from Writer / Director, Alex Garland and stars Alicia Vikander, Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac.

I almost don’t want to say too much about the film, except that you should watch it because you’ll have no regrets afterwords. This is a sci-fi drama about artificial intelligence that has three key characters, one of whom is a beautiful and very smart female A.I. Can one say ‘whom’ in reference to A.I…? I digress.

Ex Machina is well written and delivers many tension filled moments to keep you locked in; moments that are brilliantly partnered with just the right musical score.

You will get to the end and want to know immediately when the sequel is coming. Sadly I don’t have the answer to that question. Nor do I have any knowledge of whether a sequel is even planned. But live in hope we must.

Happy Ex Machina 🙂

THE MARTIAN (2015): Another Space Sci-Fi Hit Is Coming

The Martian (2015), Matt Damon

The new film from Ridley Scott, Director of many hit films including Gladiator (2000) stars Matt Damon and looks amazing.

As excited as I undoubtedly am, something tells me I’m probably going to get my heart broken, and by that I don’t mean I’ll be disappointed but that something similar to the end of 1998’s Armageddon might happen. I’d rather be pleasantly surprised than have that particular theory come to fruition.

Then again, on the other hand, whatever it takes for the film to be great.

Bring on November.

Happy The Martian 🙂

PIXELS (2015) Trailer 2, Definitely More Promising

Pixels (2015) Pac-Man, Toru Iwatani
Pixels (2015) Pac-Man, Toru Iwatani

In Pixels, starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage –  aliens have sent real life video games to end us by pixelation – and of course we must fight! Or at least the best players of each video game character  turned evil must.

The first trailer had me worried, but now…

…I badly want to see it work.

Happy Pixels 🙂

JUPITER ASCENDING (2015): What I Enjoyed Most? Mila Kunis’ Royal Outfits

Jupiter Ascending (2015), Mila Kunis
Jupiter Ascending (2015), Mila Kunis

Directed by The Wachowskis, the duo behind The Matrix (1999) trilogy and starring Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Sean Bean and Eddie Redmayne, I had relatively high hopes for how Jupiter Ascending would turn out… admittedly, mostly because of Redmayne.

After the event however, it would be quite the stretch for me to call Jupiter Ascending a ‘good film’ – though there are some things I enjoyed. Namely, Mila Kunis’ royal outfits, the visuals of Jupiter and the rather disturbingly good theory about ‘harvesting’ planet earth.

Everything else was just unconvincing. I found myself unable to properly buy into any of the characters let alone the central love story.

Jupiter Ascending (2015), Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis,

Usually I can suspend my disbelief given that a story is executed well – whether it be sci-fi, fantasy, etc. That’s just not completely the case here.

I still love Mila Kunis, especially in That 70s Show, Family Guy and Black Swan (2010) – just not in Jupiter Ascending.

Happy film loving. Now, go watch The Matrix 🙂

PREDESTINATION (2014): Why You Need To Be Ready

Predestination (2014), Ethan Hawke
Predestination (2014), Ethan Hawke

Written and directed by film making brothers Michael and Peter Spierig, Predestination is a well acted mystery / sci-fi film, starring Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook.

Due to the time travelling element, this is the kind of movie with plenty going on including a number of twists and turns that come quick and fast, so you’ll certainly need to be ready and alert.

As I watched, I found myself comparing Predestination to it’s more thrilling cousin, Inception (2010). Not that both films deal with the same subject matter exactly… but among other things, it didn’t help that one of the characters in the movie looked like a younger version of one of the Actors in Inception. I’ll let you figure out which one.

Watch it anyway if science fiction and particularly time travel are generally your thing. I’m only into sci-fi sometimes.

Happy Predestination 🙂
