Mickey 17 (2025), Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Warner Bros. Pictures
It’s time for the next trailer instalment for fantasy/sci-fi/adventure/comedy, Mickey 17.
Starring Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo and Steven Yeun, Mickey 17 is written/directed by Bong Joon Ho, the man behind my favourite film of the last 10 years, Parasite (2019).
I may have mentioned it in my response to the Mickey 17 teaser trailer released months ago, but, I’m into this for all the obvious reasons, but certainly also to see all the shots that show us the wonderfully humorous appearance of Mark Ruffalo’s character.
I don’t think I even need to ask if you’ll watch this one. So, instead, I ask: When are you buying your ticket?
Toni Collette, Angus Imrie, Steve Park, Thomas Turgoose, Afolabi Alli, Patsy Ferran, Chelsea Li, Angus Imrie and Daniel Henshall also star.
Mystery/thriller Blink Twiceis a decent writing/directorial debut for Zoë Kravitz.
Starring Naomi Ackie, Channing Tatum, Adria Arjona and Alia Shawkat, it all begins when cocktail waitress Frida (Ackie) and her friend Jess (Shawkat) get invited to tech billionaire Slater King’s private island. Unbeknownst to the two friends, their time on the island will not be quite the carefree experience they’d hoped it would be.
Blink Twice (2024), Naomi Ackie, Alia Shawkat, Amazon MGM Studios
The visual style of Blink Twice is the first thing I liked right away. Then came the performances and the fact that the story builds to some thrilling and unexpected twists and turns.
Yes, there was a moment or two when I wanted things to move slightly quicker, but soon after the halfway point, I was a very pleased audience member.
All the actors in Blink Twice performed well, including Tatum, whom we hadn’t seen in this type of dark role before. So, if you’re curious, watch it for these reasons, and how well that final third of the film is executed.
Mickey 17 (2025), Mark Ruffalo, Warner Bros. Pictures
Today is a reason to be excited because the writer/director of the film (Parasite (2019) that is my answer to the question ‘What is your favourite movie of the last ten years.’ has a great-looking new film.
The director is of course, Bong Joon Ho, and the movie is Mickey 17. A fantasy/sci-fi/adventure/comedy about a man known as an ‘expendable’ who goes on a treacherous journey to colonize an ice planet.
Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun and Mark Ruffalo are among the key cast.
So many thoughts entered my head as I watched this trailer.
Firstly, it’s delightfully unexpected, so, thank you, movie gods!
I love how much humour comes through; I’m ready for all the layers.
What an intriguing voice Pattinson has adopted here. I like it.
It appears that Ruffalo is playing what is perhaps his most fun-to-watch but fully despicable character. Surely, no one with good intentions and a kind heart has a face that ‘rests’/contorts like that.
Last but not least. how will I feel about death after I finish watching this movie? I wonder.
As a big fan of Parasite (2019), I can’t help but feel happy for all the actors who got to work with Bong Joon Ho in this movie. Especially, since you can just imagine how many would have loved the gig after watching Parasite.
In this moment, it somehow feels right to say, ‘Freedom for Mickey!‘ And, just like Straight Outta Compton (2015),Mickey 17 looks like a film that will highlight the point of why it’s always super important to read contracts in full.
Toni Collette, Angus Imrie, Steve Park, Thomas Turgoose, Afolabi Alli, Patsy Ferran, Chelsea Li, Angus Imrie and Daniel Henshall also star.
Key cast includes Channing Tatum, Naomi Ackie, Christian Slater, Alia Shawkat and Adria Arjona.
Zoe Kravitz’s directorial debut tells the story of Slater King, a tech billionaire who invites a cocktail waitress to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on his private island. But of course, mysterious and clearly terrifying happenings soon begin.
Such strong The Menu (2022) vibes I’m getting with this one. I wonder what Slater King’s selection criteria are for the people he invites to his island.
Oh, wait, I just remembered that the original title for this movie was ‘P***y Island‘. Case closed, I guess? There may still be a chance that my assumptions are incorrect. Either way, it’s going to be fun to watch Slater King get what he deserves, right?. YEAH! MORE VENGEANCE!
I promise that I’m not unhealthily obsessed with vengeance, regardless of what the above exclamation may suggest.
Simon Rex, Haley Joel Osment, Liz Caribel, Levon Hawke, Trew Mullen, Geena Davis, Kyle MacLachlan and Cris Costa also star.
