STAR WARS – THE LAST JEDI (2017): New Trailer Starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver…

The latest trailer for the new Star Wars movie, Star Wars – The Last Jedi is here. Directed by Rian Johnson and starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Adam Driver, the story continues with Rey (Ridley) on her epic journey with Finn, Poe and Luke Skywalker following the events of Star Wars Episode 7 – The force Awakens (2015)

I like the first 20 seconds of this trailer. After that though, it becomes a little tedious and leaves me thinking, ‘I know how to breathe but what else have you got?’ I found the trailers for the previous Star Wars movie far more exciting and thrilling – teaser trailer or not. It’s probably too early to call it of course. So I wait.

Star Wars – The Last Jedi Release Dates: December 15th, 2017 (UK & US)…

THE PROMISE (2016): New Trailer From Oscar Isaac, Christian Bale, Charlotte Le Bon…

The Promise (2016), Charlotte Le Bon, Oscar Isaac
The Promise (2016), Charlotte Le Bon, Oscar Isaac

Starring Christian Bale, Oscar Isaac and Charlotte Le Bon, the backdrop of The Promise is the last days of the Ottoman Empire/ the Armenian genocide. The heart of the movie is a love triangle – one between the beautiful, sophisticated Ana, a renowned American journalist and a brilliant medical student…

I’m curious about The Promise mostly because of the talented Mr Bale but also because of the controversy surrounding the subject matter, the Armenian Genocide. At time of writing, The Promise hasn’t  even been properly released yet except at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival on September 11th; yet it has a very poor IMDB score of 1.8 out of 10, the lowest I’ve ever seen on the site. I refuse to believe that Christian Bale would choose to be in a movie as terrible as the score suggests. Unfortunately, I can’t quite say the same for Oscar Isaac – on account of Mojave (2015). I digress. My guess is that those opposing the movie for political reasons have decided to do what they can to deter others from seeing it. If that’s the case, time will tell how well that’s going to work.

MOJAVE (2015): There’s Something I Liked…

Mojave (2015), Garrett Hedlund
Mojave (2015), Garrett Hedlund

My favourite thing about Mojave is the bass in Garret Hedlund’s voice. The  general story had potential, but in the end it didn’t turn out as well as it could have. My main issue is with the plausibility of aspects of the story and the general overuse of the word ‘brother.’

The only reason I don’t completely regret watching Mojave is Garrett Hedlund. Can someone please cast him to star in a well scripted and executed movie? I ask because I believe in his acting abilities, not just so I can enjoy listening to him speak.

As for Oscar Isaac… I can’t say I loved his performance here. But, he was good in Ex Machina (2015). So there’s that…

Watch Mojave if you really, really must. The only other reason I can think of is if you want to find out just how much truth is in everything I’ve said about Garrett Hedlund. Or maybe you want to count how many times the word ‘brother’ is said. The answer is way more than you’d ever want to hear.

Director William Monahan is also responsible for the unfortunate script and Mark Wahlberg makes an appearance.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE (2016): New Trailer Starring Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence…

X-Men Apocalypse (2016), James McAvoy - Charles Xavier
X-Men Apocalypse (2016), James McAvoy – Charles Xavier

Friday has arrived with a trailer starring Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence that I wasn’t aware was missing from my week.

Directed by Bryan Singer, X-Men: Apocalypse is the latest instalment of the X-Men franchise and it looks good…

Trailer 1

Trailer 2

I like both trailers, the specific footage  and dialogue is great especially for trailer one. What I’m less keen on is the continued use of the music first heard at 1:10. I feel as though once was quite enough.

Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence  all return for this instalment, along with some new mutants.

MOJAVE (2015): New Trailer Starring Garrett Hedlund & Oscar Isaac…

MOJAVE (2015), Garrett Hedlund

In the latest thriller starring Oscar Isaac and Garrett Hedlund, I noticed a few things…

Written and directed by William Monahan, it’s the choice of music that stood out first and not necessarily in a bad way.

I like aspects of the editing and definitely the bass in Hedland’s voice. Though, I am a  tad concerned by what seems to be excessive usage of the word ‘brother.

My fingers are crossed that Mojave works. Hedlund’s character is interesting to me. I wonder what the final conclusion will be on Isaac’s performance.

Mark Wahlberg and Dania Ramirez also star.

Epic looking and with great trailer music, especially at the beginning. Something tells me that writer / director J.J. Abrams is going to make serious fans very proud indeed.

Time for me to get moving and watching the previous films if I don’t want to be completely clueless for what is likely the biggest film event of the year if not of all time.

EX MACHINA (2015): Vikander’s Portrayal Will Leave You Wanting More…

Ex Machina (2015), Alicia Vikander
Ex Machina (2015), Alicia Vikander

Ex Machina comes from writer / director, Alex Garland and stars Alicia Vikander, Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac.

I almost don’t want to say too much about the film, except that you should watch it because you’ll have no regrets afterwords. This is a sci-fi drama about artificial intelligence that has three key characters, one of whom is a beautiful and very smart female A.I.

Ex Machina is well written and delivers many tension filled moments to keep you locked in; moments that are brilliantly partnered with just the right musical score.

You will get to the end and want to know immediately when the sequel is coming. Sadly, I don’t have the answer to that question. Nor do I have any knowledge of whether a sequel is even planned. But live in hope, we must.

STAR WARS EPISODE 7 – THE FORCE AWAKENS (2015): I May Just Feel It

Star Wars Episode 7 - The Force Awakens (2015)
Star Wars Episode 7 – The Force Awakens (2015)

I love movies, but I do confess that there are some highly regarded films I’ve never watched – and a few more I may never seriously consider watching. Unfortunately all Star Wars films fall into this category.

Fantasy is simply not my favourite genre. In fact, I was quite sure that I’d probably never get round to watching a single Star Wars film. Unless…
…I met a really impassioned fan who somehow finally managed to convince me to put my aversion to fantasy film aside.

What I didn’t count on was that, that very person might just be new Star Wars writer / director J.J. Abrams.

I didn’t actually meet him, but I have seen the first 60 seconds of the new Star Wars Episode 7 – The Force Awakens teaser trailer:

I’m making no promises, of course. But when that next trailer does arrive, attention I will pay.

Happy The force Awakens 🙂
