Director James Cameron is properly back with the finished sequel to Avatar (2009).
Avatar – The Way of Water is set more than ten years after the events of the first film. Planet Pandora is under attack once more. And Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), plus his new-found family must do everything possible to keep each other safe.
Zoe Saldana, Kate Winslet, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Giovanni Ribisi are among the key cast.
To watch or not to watch Avatar – The Way of Water? Doesn’t that sound like the silliest question to ask a movie enthusiast? The answer is both yes and no. The former is true because all James Cameron movies are an event. A truth that arguably applies to him more than most.
Even though I may not be in the mood to watch a film about a family fighting for survival by the time this is released, I would be doing myself a disservice as a dedicated movie enthusiast by not watching it. Especially considering how impressive I found Avatar to be.
The reason the above question is not the silliest is this: No one thing is ever really loved by all, and that is the way of the human.
I’m curious, how highly anticipated is Avatar – The Way of Water for you? I haven’t been as excited as I ought to be because of all the release delays over the years. Yet, something tells me that will all change once the opening credits begin.
Jemaine Clement, Bailey Bass, Edie Falco, Joel David Moore, Chloe Coleman, Jack Champion, Cliff Curtis, Jamie Flatters, CCH Pounder, Britain Dalton, Matt Gerald and Trinity Jo-Li Bliss also star.
Avatar – The Way of Water Release Dates: December 16th, 2022 (US & UK)…
Happy Film Loving,

Oh HECK yes I’m excited about it. Will it be in 3D??? I really hope so.
Excellent! Considering that it’s a James Cameron film, maybe they’ve invented a 10D! 😁 My brother who loved the first film thinks that the only way it should be watched is on an IMAX screen.
We’ll be in the local IMAX theatre with our 3-D glasses on next weekend. You and I were of the same mind today…I just posted something about Avatar earlier. Looking forward to it!
Excellent plan! 🥳 I’ll be heading over to your page in the next few hours.
It’s funny, it’s almost hard to believe that The Way of Water is almost here. But it’s true, December 16th is next Friday. 🙏🙏
🙏🙏
We’re booked into the biggest screen in London for this on December 29th, my sons birthday – it’s an event!
I’m guessing you mean IMAX Waterloo, it’s the perfect place to see it for the full effects. ‘An event’ is right. My brother already rewatched the first one at IMAX a month or so ago, in preparation. 🤓
That’s it!
I went with my wife to our local cinema to watch The Way of Water and was disappointed. If the creators wanted to revisit Avatar they should have come up with better story. Yes we knew at the end of the first movie that the evil humans would come back in force but The Way of Water needed a stronger storyline and idea of where it was going rather than to amble through wonderful CGI and leave us certain there would be a Avatar 3 if this movie does okay financially.
It is kind of disrespectful of the original movie. Why is it impossible these days for a good movie to stand on its own? Yes the visuals of The Way of Water were even better than the original (because the technology has improved) but the story is muddled and unsure of what it wants to say. After Spider fails to kill his clone father why would he be accepted back into Jake’s family?
TM, you have a Great movie reviewing blog that is always very readable Happy New Year. 🙂
I’ve heard similar responses about the story for The Way of Water; it’s a real shame. In fact, now that you say it, I had a feeling that the story would be typically predictable based on the trailer.
I’m now looking forward to finding out whether the same things you’ve mentioned here occur to me as well, when I finally watch it. Or will I be largely blinded as I’m seduced by the the much improved visuals? 😁
Thank you so much for the very kind words. And a wonderful 2023 to you as well. May it be filled with the most pleasant of surprises. 🥂
