Created by Dennis Lehane, Smoke is a 9-episode crime drama that stars Taron Egerton and Jurnee Smollett as an arson investigator and detective, as they try to bring two serial arsonists to justice.
I love watching Egerton do his thing, sounding fully American to my non-American ears, while being thoroughly Welsh. The man is amply skilled.
I’ve watched shows like Chicago Fire (2012) and, more recently, 9-1-1 (2018). As a result, I feel it’s safe to say that I’m somewhat familiar with the psychology of the serial arsonist types. The cat-and-mouse situation here should be fun to see play out.
Lastly, doesn’t the fire look absolutely beautiful? To be clear, I’m in no way a budding arsonist. I promise.

As a kid I was daydreaming about burning stuff. Luckily my parents got me into scouts when I was 7 and I stayed there for the next 14 years. Among many practical things I’ve learned being a scout was how to safely make a fire and control it. Apart from a single incident when I was burning paper edges to make it old and it got out of hand in my room so the paper bin caught on fire and I had to take it out, I got my pyromaniac under control. 😅
The series looks interesting if you’re into fire. 🔥
