Embrace Of The Serpent, the latest film from writer/ director Cirro Guerra is about the search for a sacred healing plant in the Amazon jungle…

It’s the title, absence of colour, ominous music and beautiful visuals that first caught my attention. I like the film’s title because it seems to promise death by the not so loving ’embrace’ of a serpent. If true, I’m curious to see how that would be captured on film. If not, an intriguingly different story is still on the way. I, of course found myself reminded of the brilliant Apocalypto (2006) – if only because of Karamakate, the Amazonian shaman’s attire.
