Ballerina (2025), Ana de Armas Lionsgate Movies

BALLERINA (2025): New Trailer Starring Ana de Armas, Keanu Reeves, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus…

Ana de Armas is Eve, a.k.a. Ballerina, a female assassin from the world of John Wick. Eve’s mission is to seek revenge against those who killed her family.

Directed by Len Wiseman; additional key cast includes Keanu Reeves, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Norman Reedus.

I’m sure this will be entertaining and de Armas will be great. However, even though I’m quite partial to stories of vengeance, I’m starting to wonder how many more assassin movies I can watch before serious fatigue properly sets in.

I remember starting to feel similarly about superhero films some years ago. Now, unfortunately, I tend to ignore most of the new ones, with just one exception, Deadpool.

In a way, assassins are sort of superheroes. Their motivation is just usually more personal than focused on saving humanity.

Of course, I can understand why many will be watching Ballerina. But, I wonder, how much more time and energy do you still have for assassin films?

Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Anjelica Huston, David Castañeda, Gabriel Byrne, Anne Parillaud, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Abraham Popoola, Togo Igawa, Caleb Spillyards, Ava Joyce McCarthy and Jaroslav Vundrle also star.

Ballerina Release Dates: June 6th, 2025 (US); June 7th 2025 (UK)…

Happy Film Loving,

G

  1. I hope it will succeed. In the last years we had some really good action movies with female protagonist like Terminator Dark Fate, Atomic Blonde and now Furiosa, but they were a flop even if they were amazing. So I really hope this one will be a big success.

  2. Some good points, but I don’t really feel the fatigue. Perhaps because I don’t follow the fresh releases like I used to. I review the trailers and what strikes me one way or the other I add on the watchlist. Then I mix and match, depending on my mood and time of the day/week.

For example, a few episodes of season 2 of Rings of Power got me into a LOTR nostalgia mood, so I binged all 6 movies in about a week. Now my belly is full of fantasy, so I’ll probably switch to something else for a bit. 😉

Anyway, Ana looks great and the trailer feels exciting. No idea when I’ll watch it but it will take a while. I’ve heard that Keanu was supposed to be a Jedi along with his Matrix costar Carrie-Anne Moss in The Acolyte, but he had to decline due to a schedule conflict with this movie. It would be interesting to see him wielding a lightsaber.

    1. That’s a great way to watch them based on the mood you’re in, and I think you’re right about the effect of no longer following the fresh releases like you once did.

Absolutely, nobody wants a belly full of fantasy only. 😁 Fun turn of phrase.

Keanu wielding a lightsaber would be great indeed. However, from what I heard, The Acolyte didn’t do too well, so not too much of a loss for him.

      1. Acolyte was a mixed bag and to be honest the fight scenes were the only thing worth watching. Overall was ok for me but not memorable. It was too uneven for that. I watch all Star Wars media as a longtime fan and there’s bound to be missteps.

  3. I’m not automatically assuming it’s gonna be great, because I love the John Wick series, but I’m looking forward to Ballerina. A lot of assassin movies these days tend to imitate John Wick, and most of them don’t work without him.
