THE GORGE (2025): The Things I Liked…

Weeks ago, I doubted the quality of Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller’s latest action/adventure/fantasy film, The Gorge, purely based on the trailer. 

Luckily, especially after the recent disappointment of George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s Wolfs (2024), among one or two other movies that failed to deliver, I’m happy to confirm that I didn’t find The Gorge boring or bad.

In a story about two highly skilled operatives hired to protect a mysterious gorge, Taylor-Joy and Teller are well cast for a couple of reasons, including their chemistry. Sigourney Weaver and Sope Dirisu were also memorable.

So pleasant was my surprise to be truly enjoying The Gorge, that the following words came to mind as the movie played.

Hello, good story, special effects, and engaging execution.

Taylor-Joy and Teller sure move very convincingly as capable snipers.

Look at me liking this movie and eating my words.

Watch The Gorge if you’re curious. Perfect, it is not. What it is is fun, satisfying and romantic.

It’s time for the next trailer instalment for fantasy/sci-fi/adventure/comedy, Mickey 17.

Starring Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo and Steven Yeun, Mickey 17 is written/directed by Bong Joon Ho, the man behind my favourite film of the last 10 years, Parasite (2019).

I may have mentioned it in my response to the Mickey 17 teaser trailer released months ago, but, I’m into this for all the obvious reasons, but certainly also to see all the shots that show us the wonderfully humorous appearance of Mark Ruffalo’s character.

I don’t think I even need to ask if you’ll watch this one. So, instead, I ask: When are you buying your ticket?

Toni Collette, Angus Imrie, Steve Park, Thomas Turgoose, Afolabi Alli, Patsy Ferran, Chelsea Li, Angus Imrie and Daniel Henshall also star.

A MINECRAFT MOVIE (2025): New Trailer From Danielle Brooks, Jason Momoa, Jack Black and Jennifer Coolidge…

The journey to try and save the Overworld is well underway in the latest A Minecraft Movie trailer.

Danielle Brooks, Jason Momoa, Jennifer Coolidge and Jack Black star, while Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite (2004) directs.

Sometimes, a trailer doesn’t quite hit the first time I see it. Other times, it never will, even after the fourth or fifth viewing.

I enjoyed the A Minecraft Movie teaser trailer, and I’m glad to confirm that, even though this trailer ‘didn’t quite hit’ upon first viewing, surprise, surprise; I’m now into it.

Something tells me that the fun The Angry Bird (2016) movie vibes it’s giving has a portion to do with it.

Bring on the silly fun, I say!

The first trailer with David Corenswet as the new Clark Kent/Superman is upon us.

Directed by James Gunn, and with Nicolas Hoult as Lex Luthor, plus Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, we’ll get to watch Superman grapple with his heritage and human upbringing while being the embodiment of truth and justice.

Isabela Merced, Frank Grillo, Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion are among the key cast.

It just occurred to me that a big part of the reason why Captain America is my Favourite Marvel Superhero is that his character and attributes remind me of the superhero who first stole my heart, Superman.

I still haven’t seen the Henry Cavil Superman films yet. My schedule was too Marvel-heavy around that time. However, I’m looking forward to what new energy Corenswet will bring. Based on this teaser trailer, I’d say things are looking good, even though there seems to be A LOT going on.

BETTER MAN (2024): New Trailer Starring Robbie Williams, Jonno Davies, Steve Pemberton, Kate Mulvany…

Directed by Michael Gracey of The Greatest Showman (2017), something you didn’t anticipate and that looks refreshingly different is coming.

Starring Robbie Williams, Kate Mulvany, Jonno Davies and Steve Pemberton, Better Man is a musical/biography/docudrama about British popstar Robbie Williams.

Angels is my favourite of all of Williams’s songs. I also appreciate how unexpected this style of biography is. And it makes plenty of sense to me that the director of my favourite movie musical, as mentioned above, is part of the team behind Better Man’s refreshingly different execution.

With that said and the heart displayed in this trailer, I think we’re in for a good experience.

Is Robbie Williams an artist you think of fondly?
