LOUDER THAN BOMBS (2015): New Trailer From Jesse Eisenberg, Gabriel Byrne…

The new movie starring Jesse Eisenberg, Gabriel Byrne and Devin Druid has my attention because it involves a seemingly dark secret.

Norwegian director  Joachim Trier is the man in charge of Louder Than Bombs and the movie’s below trailer has me hypnotised.

For a moment I thought the trailer was going to reveal the secret alluded to. I don’t know what I would have done if that happened. This trailer could have probably been  a little shorter but things could certainly be worse.

Isabelle Huppert, Ruby Jerins, Rachel Brosnahan and Megan Ketch also star.

OSCARS 2016: A Reminder For Why I Love Chris Rock So Much…

Chris Rock, Oscars 2016
Chris Rock, Oscars 2016

During all the Oscars controversy of the last few months, I knew that this year’s chosen host, Chris Rock would make the right choice about whether to present the event or not. I certainly wished that he would. Especially because anyone that has seen any of his standup comedy knows full well that the man is smart. Precisely as smart and impassioned as the excellent job he did with the 2016 Oscars opening monologue

I stayed up late to listen to Rock’s words immediately. I’m certainly exhausted this morning but I regret nothing.

Other key highlights for me included Leonardo DiCaprio’s Best Actor win and Kate Winslet’s reaction as he delivered his speech. Who doesn’t want a friendship like that? There’s also the beauty of the last few words of Best Director winner for The Revenant (2015) Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s acceptance speech:

I am very lucky to be here tonight, but unfortunately, many others haven’t had the same luck. There is a line in the film where Glass, to his mixed race son says, ‘They don’t listen to you, they just see the colour of your skin’ So what a great opportunity for our generation to really liberate ourselves from all prejudice and this tribal thinking and make sure, for once and forever that the colour of our skin becomes as irrelevant as the length of our hair

It’s just so very beautiful, isn’t it?

THE DRESSMAKER (2015): For The Story, Fashion, Style…

The Dressmaker (2016), Kate Winstlet

The Dressmaker is a fun revenge drama set in a rural small town in Australia. I use the word ‘fun’ because of the dialogue, characters, cinematography and the haute couture fashion and colours of the 1950s.

The character played by Hugo Weaving is the source of several laughs and a definite highlight. And, as always, the film’s star, Kate Winslet, delivers a wonderful performance. The movie’s beautiful soundtrack, courtesy of composer David Hirschfelder, is also another plus.

Directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse and based on the novel by Rosalie Ham, I say watch The Dressmaker because it’s good. Furthermore, you probably won’t be able to guess how things will unfold before they do.

Sarah Snook, Judy Davis, and Liam Hemsworth also star. Here’s the trailer for a taster.

THE MAN WHO KNEW INFINITY (2015): New Trailer Starring Jeremy Irons, Dev Patel…

The Man Who Knew Infinity (2015), Dev Patel, Jeremy Irons

Written/directed by Matt Brown, The Man Who Knew Infinity is the true story of Srinivasa Ramanujan Iyengar, a self taught mathematician from India who helped take mathematics to where it is today.

I feel like I already know the full story – following this ‘so-called trailer’, However, I’ll still be tuning in because I enjoy movies about people who have achieved great things. I also like stories of  beautiful friendships, such as the one between Iyengar and his mentor, British mathematician, G.H. Hardy.

It really helps that the filmmaking team involved just happens to be very promising. To name just a few,  Jeremy Irons, Dev Patel and Toby Jones.

K-SHOP (2016): New Trailer Starring Ziad Abaza, Ewen MacIntosh, Reece Noi

Considering that the weekend is here, it looks like today’s trailer has come at the perfect time, or maybe not. It all  depends on your perception and how much you like kebabs.

K-Shop is the latest dark and interesting looking thriller from writer/director Dan Pringle.

Yes, the Sweeney Todd (2007) comparisons have come and they’ll no doubt continue to do so. I have a general rough idea of that movie but I’m yet to see it. What I do know is that the Jonny Depp version is a musical and unfortunately, I’ve never been partial to those.

K-Shop appeals to me because it looks well executed, based on this trailer. But more than that, it’s one of those stories where the bullied just won’t take it any more. Unless you like bullies, you understand how satisfying that can be. To be clear, I’m not saying that  I agree with the specifics of what the bullied ends up doing in this movie, but hey, I’m an understanding person.

Ziad Abaza, Reece Noi, Ewen MacIntosh,  Lucinda Rhodes, Jamie Lee-Hill and Scott Williams make up some of the key cast.

K-Shop Release Dates: July 22nd, 2016 (UK)…
