Created by Tom King and Chris Mundy, new eight-part series, Lanterns, stars Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Nathan Fillion and Kelly Macdonald.
The story follows John Stewart (Pierre) and Hal Jordan (Chandler), two Lanterns, a.k.a., intergalactic cops, drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery. One where they’re investigating a murder in the American heartland.
‘Promising‘, one might say.
I particularly like what happens from 1:29 in this trailer, and the music that kicks in around 1:42. Is it just me, or does it sound a lot like something from Black Panther? Especially toward the end of that trailer.
Before this, which sounds like a fun premise, all I really knew about Green Lantern, as a non–comic book reader, was that he’s a superhero Ryan Reynolds played back in 2011… much to the disappointment of many fans.
It’s still too early to say how this version will turn out, but I’m here for the unexpected, chemistry-filled pairing of Pierre and Chandler.
Lastly, long-standing Green Lantern fan or not, how is this looking to you?

I never got around to watching Ryan’s GL. This, I’ll give this a chance.

I am a comic reader, so I’ll tell you that I absolutely hate the way this looks. Green Lantern is a colorful superhero, yet this teaser is drab and colorless with no green energy whatsoever. Plus he’s a space cop that goes on many intergalactic adventures. So they thought it was a good idea to stick them on Earth with a low scale murder mystery. The quick glimpse of the Green Lantern uniform looks awful and I hate that this show is R rated with F bombs. Green Lantern is supposed to be a founding member of the Justice League, but Hal Jordan is already an old man. I’m also nervous that they’re going to ruin John Stewart by making him too combative towards Hal. The Ryan Reynolds film may have been bad, but at least they understood who the character was. Lanterns does not look promising to me at all.
That sucks. I’d hoped that they would finally get it right. You do raise some great points. It would be great if you end up being won over. Perhaps there’s a chance of that since this is a series rather than a film. Hopefully, the Green Lantern story isn’t like that classic that’s too hard to make well: The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger.
