Read my spoiler-free movie review of Athena (2022).
One of the best teaser trailers I’ve seen in a while just landed. It’s for Athena, a brand new drama from acclaimed French director Romain Gavras, and the theme is – you’ll see.
Hello, beautifully engaging trailer edit. Greetings, stunning accompanying music and mysterious letters that turn into:
‘It is difficult to fight anger; for a man will buy revenge with his soul.’ _Heraclitus, 500 BCE
Just in case all the above wasn’t enough, the name Romain Gavras shows up in the above trailer. That excites me because he’s a director I remember most fondly for his thought-provoking work in M.IA.’s Born Free.
I can’t wait for more of all the elements that already work so well in this trailer. It’s unlikely to be ‘easy viewing’, of course. Especially considering the premise, which follows three siblings hours after the tragic death of the youngest brother.
Still, I can’t deny that I love a good vengeance story. What do you like most about this trailer? Do share in the comments below.
Athena stars Dali Benssalah, Alexis Manenti, Karim Lasmi, Anthony Bajon, Ouassini Embarek, Radostina Rogliano, Tarek Haddaji, Sami Slimane, Mehdi Abdelhakmi and Guy Donald Koukissa,

Movie trailers should really list the title and artist of the music they use.
In the words of the cab driver in Rush Hour 2. ‘Now you are speaking my language.’ 😁
Oohh, this might be pretty intense, you can tell from this snippet that there will be violence, hopefully along with a good plot!
Absolutely. I envision a moving, engaging and certainly violent cocktail. 🤓
I absolutely love that the trailer is one long shot. No cuts. Very unique for trailers, especially. And The slow reveal text is clever!
Amen to all of that! 🤓
I wonder how many long shots the finished film is going to have. I don’t mind as long as it’s all engaging.
They are extremely difficult to choreograph so I would be surprised if there was more than even just this one!
Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I haven’t heard of it but now I’m intrigued, hopefully it’ll arrive on streaming soon.
It’s my pleasure! 🤓 I hear that September is the release month. The precise date just hasn’t been confirmed yet.
