Directed by Barry Levinson, The Alto Knights is a new biography/crime/drama starring Robert De Niro, Cosmo Jarvis and Debra Messing.

Levinson’s story focuses on Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, a pair of Italian Americans who run two separate crime families in the mid-20th century, and specifically, one’s attempt to assassinate the other.

It’s always interesting when an actor plays two characters who have to interact with each other face-to-face, isn’t it? The mind boggles at all that has to happen to ensure it all looks natural.

This is precisely the kind of movie that should come with a good long look behind the scenes. Also, it’s the great Robert De Niro who always impresses. Forever a joy for me to watch his skills in action.

Directed by Michael Gracey of The Greatest Showman (2017), something you didn’t anticipate and that looks refreshingly different is coming.

Starring Robbie Williams, Kate Mulvany, Jonno Davies and Steve Pemberton, Better Man is a musical/biography/docudrama about British popstar Robbie Williams.

Angels is my favourite of all of Williams’s songs. I also appreciate how unexpected this style of biography is. And it makes plenty of sense to me that the director of my favourite movie musical, as mentioned above, is part of the team behind Better Man’s refreshingly different execution.

With that said and the heart displayed in this trailer, I think we’re in for a good experience.

QUEER (2024): New Trailer From Luca Guadagnino, Staring Daniel Craig, Drew Starkey, Jason Schwartzman…

New drama/romance/biography, Queer is the latest from Luca Guadagnino, director of this summer’s popular tennis movie Challengers, which starred Zendaya.

Daniel Craig is Willam Lee, an outcast American expatriate in 1950s Mexico who develops an infatuation with a younger man named Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey).

Based on a 1985 William S. Burroughs novella of the same name, Queer is a movie I’m curious about because of Daniel Craig (my favourite Bond), 1950s Mexico, and Guadagnino’s visuals/cinematography.

Queer also reminds me of Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara’s Carol (2015), a rather good tale of forbidden love, also set in the 1950s, though in New York City.

I suspect that at least one heart will break by the end of this. Do you sense it too? It would be wonderful to be wrong.

Jason Schwartzman, Daan de Wit, Henrique Zaga, Colin Bates, Simon Rizzoni, Drew Droege, Ariel Schulman and Omar Apollo aso star.

Director James Mangold’s biography/drama/music film about Bob Dylan and starring Timotée Chalamet has a great new trailer.

I love how this builds to an exciting crescendo that has me looking forward to the release day of this award-worthy-looking production.

I couldn’t name a Dylan song when the teaser trailer for this movie was released a couple of months ago. At this point, I’m imagining myself enjoying Like a Rolling Stone live, in that trailer scene at the end.

It’s great to see Chalamet, who is clearly a DiCaprio-type talent do his thing to such a high level. Absolutely taking myself to the cinema for this one. Can’t wait. Oh, and I fully wrote this post with Like a Rolling Stone playing in the background the whole time.

MONSTERS – The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is a new ten-episode biography/crime/thriller series that stars Chloë Sevigny, Javier Bardem, Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch.

Created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan; this is the next instalment of the Monsters anthology series. This time, instead of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, the focus is on convicted murderers Lyle and Erik Menendez; two brothers who murdered their parents.

I saw the earlier trailers for this new series some weeks ago. But, considering how dark Dahmer looked and turned out to be, I wasn’t sure I could watch this one either.

I probably still won’t watch this. However, as a fan of Bardem and Sevigny, it will be difficult to ignore it completely. The key question is, can I trade some hours of sadness for super impressive acting and great storytelling? We’ll see.

What appears clear after watching this trailer is that ‘monsters create monsters’. I’ll leave it at that for now.
