Coyote vs. Acme might just be the best animated/live-action film I’ve seen yet. However, before you get too excited, I’m not saying that it’s perfect, even though it gets a lot of things exactly right.
Starring John Cena, Will Forte and Lana Condor, director Dave Green’s film covers the battle between Wile E. Coyote and Acme, the big company behind all those highly questionable products used by the Looney Tunes gang.
Cena and nostalgia are what got me to the cinema, where one of the first things I noticed about the movie was the speedy editing, which was arguably a tad too fast.
Forte and Condor were great in their roles as Wile’s legal team. Other highlights include Bugs Bunny’s entrance, realising just how resilient Wile is, and discovering the truth about the dynamic between Wile and Road Runner.
What surprised me by the end was that even though I enjoyed spending time with some of my favourite cartoon characters from my childhood, I can’t say that Coyote vs. Acme fully scratched the nostalgia itch. Perhaps if my favourite characters, Bugs Bunny and Tweety Bird, had been the main focus of the story, I’d have had an even stronger emotional connection to it all.
On the other hand, perhaps I just need to rewatch the cartoon episodes that had younger me especially thrilled. Even then, I suspect there’s no guarantee they’ll feel as good now as they did back then.
Watch Coyote vs. Acme if you’re curious. It may have done everything just right for you, including the speedy editing.
