MIGRATION (2023) The Things I Liked…

The story and message about not being too afraid to expand your horizons and see the world may not be delivered in the most non-generic and sophisticated way; but, directors Benjamin Renner and Guylo Homsy’s animated action/adventure, Migration is still fun to watch.

Starring Elizabeth Banks, Kumail Nanjiani, Keegan-Michael Key and Awkwafina; Migration is joy-inducing, colourful, cute and features some engaging characters – my favourite of which is Delroy the Jamaican parrot, who is played rather well by Key.

Watch Migration because it’s fun, cute, and it’s only one hour and twenty-three minutes long. Also, look out for that ‘It’s about time I went to Jamaica‘ feeling, because it’s definitely coming.

New animated comedy/adventure Migration is the story of a duck family heading towards Jamaica for a long overdue vacation.

Directed by Benjamin Renner and Guylo Homs; Elizabeth Banks, Keegan-Michael Key, Kumail Nanjiani and Awkwafina voice the key characters.

The four things I already like about Migration are:

  1. All the big-eyed duck cuteness
  2. The beautiful song that starts at 1:07 minutes into the trailer
  3. The great voice-work by all involved
  4. The promising humour, of course

I wonder where this will land in my list of favourite animated films about birds; a list that currently includes Chicken Run (2000) and The Angry Birds Movie (2016).

Are you also ready for some cute avian shenanigans? I know I am.

David Mitchell, Caspar Jennings, Tresi Gazal, Carol Kane and Danny DeVito also star.

In Angelina Jolie, Helen Mirren, Bryan Cranston and Sam Rockwell’s latest ,The One and Only Ivan, a gorilla tries to piece together his past with the help of an elephant named Stella, as they work on a plan to escape from captivity.

A partly animated adventure/comedy directed by Thea Sharrock, additional key cast includes Danny DeVito, Brooklynn Prince and Phillipa Soo.

I’m certainly not the biggest fan of circuses. As such, I’m glad it looks as though by the end, this movie will put a big smile on my face. Also, it has elephants!

Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart and Jack Black return for Jumanji – The Next Level, a sequel to 2017’s rather popular Jumanji – Welcome To The Jungle.

Directed by Jake Kasdan, this time when the friends are back in Jumanji, the team realise that things are quite different within the world’s most dangerous game.

This looks as though it’ll be fun. I like the twist and look forward to more of Hart speaking like Danny Glover.

Madison Iseman, Awkwafina, Danny DeVito, Colin Hanks, Alex Wolff, Nick Jonas, Danny Glover, Ser’Darius Blain and Rhys Darby also star.

In Smallfoot, Channing Tatum plays Migo, a Yeti convinced that the elusive creatures known as ‘humans’ actually do exist.

Zendaya and Danny DeVito also star while Karey Kirkpatrick and Jason Reisig cowrite and direct.

As I watched this trailer, a few things went through my mind. Firstly, what a brilliant idea! I totally didn’t see the twist coming. Second, how nice for Tatum, finally a movie he’s made that his young daughter can watch all the way through.

Last but not least, of course, Tatum’s character had to have great dance moves.

I’m looking forward to this one, and I’ll be careful not to watch any more Smallfoot trailers because I just really want to be surprised and delighted on viewing day.

Additional cast includes Jimmy Tatro, Yara Shahidi, Gina Rodriguez, James Corden, LeBron James and Common.
