BLACK NARCISSUS (2020): New Trailer From Gemma Arterton, Jim Broadbent, Rosie Cavaliero, Alessandro Nivola, Diana Rigg…

Black Narcissus (2020), Gemma Aterton

Black Narcissus is a new three-part drama/mini-series based on the 1939 novel of the same name by Rumer Godden.

Starring Gemma Aterton, Jim Broadbent, Diana Rigg, Alessandro Nivola and Rosie Cavaliero; the story of Black Narcissus centres around a group of nuns and the challenges they face in the hostile environment of a remote old Himalayan palace that they wish to make a convent.

Wish to make a convent‘ you say? But what was it before and why is it so very challenging to change? These are the questions that have me most curious. These and a good Aterton Performance, plus the slight Game of Thrones vibe, most of which may be because of the fact that the late Diana Rigg, a.k.a. Olenna Tyrellin G.o.T is in this.

Charlie Maher, Chaneil Kular, Nila Aalia and Patsy Ferran also star.

Black Narcissus Release Dates: November 23rd 2020 (US)…

Written/directed by and starring Julie Delpy; My Zoe is a new drama about a divorced mother who’s trying to protect her daughter following an unexpected tragedy.

Gemma Arterton, Daniel Brühl, and Richard Armitage are among the key cast.

Cloning appears to be the subject so I’m definitely in. Especially as I often wonder whether cloning will become far more popular in our lifetime. And since there’s really no knowing for sure, thank goodness that non-scientist like many of us get to explore the subject matter through film.

Lindsay Duncan, Jördis Triebel, Nina Kunzendorf, Tijan Marei, Nicolette Krebitz, Carolina Vera and Vladimir Burlakov also star.

My Zoe Release Dates: October 5th, 2020 (UK)…

Summerland (2020), Gemma Aterton, IFC Films

Summerland stars Gemma Aterton as Alice, a reclusive writer living on the seaside cliffs of Southern England during World War II. Alice’s life is unexpectedly changed after meeting Frank, a young boy she reluctantly takes in after he’s evacuated from London.

Written / directed by Jessica Swale; additional key cast includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Penelope Wilton and Tom Courtenay.

I’m drawn to this one for young Frank’s journey; from feeling unwanted and being all alone to finding the perfect new home.

Another draw is the little hints of humour and the musical score.

Amanda Root, Siân Phillips, Dixie Egerickx, Amanda Lawrence, Sally Scott, Jessica Gunning, David Horovitch, Karl Farrer and Toby Osmond also star.

Starring Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Matthew Goode and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, The King’s Man is the story of one man’s race to stop a collection of history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds from killing millions.

Directed by Matthew Vaughn, The King’s Man is the third instalment of the Kingsman franchise…

I’ll be watching to see how it compares to the original and best, Kingsman – The Secret Service (2014). Also looking forward tto finding out who Taylor-Johnson is playing.

Written and directed by Dominic Savage; Gemma Aterton and Dominic Cooper star in The Escape, a story about an ordinary woman who makes an extraordinary decision that changes the course of her life forever.

Frances Barber, Montserrat Lombard and Marthe Keller also star…

So much of what happens in this nicely edited trailer is part of any girl’s worst nightmare. I’m really excited to see where this story goes and any uncomfortable truths it’ll likely shine a light on.

I’m looking forward to a great performance by the cast, Aterton in particular.

Sam Claflin, Gemma Aterton and Bill Nighy are the stars of Their Finest, a Lone Schefig directed drama / comedy / romance set during World War II. The story focuses on a British film crew tasked with making a propaganda film after the Blitzkrieg to help boost morale…

I’ll be tuning in for the comedy and to witness the extent of the sexism of those times. I’m not quite in the mood for the romance just now, no doubt that’s going to change, I’m certain of it.

THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS (2016): The Thing I Liked…

Melanie (Sennia Nanua) is a special young girl. A young girl who’s taken along on a journey of survival with her teacher (Gemma Aterton) and a scientist (Glenn Close).

Directed by Colm McCarthy and set in a dystopian future in what looks like London, England, The Girl With All The Gifts is an adequate zombie movie. It’s not quite the kind you may be expecting in some respects but it’s worth it to hang in there for the ending, my favourite part.

I don’t recall getting particularly terrified as I watched, probably because gore isn’t necessarily the core focus of McCarthy’s movie. The Girl With All The Gifts is a relatively smart zombie movie. Personally I find the idea of zombies a tad more ridiculous and unreal than the idea of vampires – as odd as that may seem. And yes, I’m pretty sure that I wouldn’t survive a zombie apocalypse.

Watch The Girl With All The Gifts if you’re intrigued enough and to find out about the refreshing difference that is the ending.

100 Streets is the new drama starring Idris Elba, Gemma Aterton, Tom Cullen and Franz Drameh. Directed  by Jim O’Hanlon, it’s based in contemporay London, England and focused on the different lives of three people who live within 100 streets of each other…

Considering that none of the characters in this trailer seem to be having a particularly good time, I’m hoping for brighter days for at least one of them.

‘Without our passion, it’s very hard to find our place in the world’ – Already my favourite line in the movie, I’m sure of it!
