Co-written and directed by Taika Waititi, Klara and the Sun is a new drama/sci-fi film about a robot girl’s attempt to save a heartbroken family.
Jenna Ortega, Amy Adams and Steve Buscemi are among the key cast.
Waititi and the cast have me interested. However, I’m not quite sure about how compelling the story is to me just yet.
Hopefully, the second trailer will clarify things.
Mia Tharia,, Aran Murphy, Natasha Lyonne, Simon Baker, Michelle Ang, Davida McKenzie, Antonia Prebble, Laura Interval and Laura Interval also star.
Klara and the Sun Release Dates: October 23rd, 2026 (US)…

My kind of movie. Written and directed by Taika clinches it for me. And what a cast!
Agreed that Taika is always a big draw. I look forward to what trailer 2 has to say.
“You’re not the droid we’re looking for”
Taika needs to show already in the trailer he’s a Star Wars fan. 😄
There’s a lighthearted Tim Burton style to this one. I’m also not sure if it can offer a fresh perspective because there’s a lot of cliches and moments pulled from other movies like Spielberg’s AI and Bicentennial Man with Robin Williams. Ortega and Adams (she’s been a busy bee lately) are always interesting to watch though.
I’m with you about Ortega and Adams being an interesting watch. Many of the references you mentioned went right over my head because sci-fi isn’t my go-to genre. Even still, I imagine a good time can still be had.
I read the book and it was truly magnificent so I hope Waiti would do a great work with it.
That’s good to know. I guess that, in the hands of Waititi, there is hope it will be well executed after all.
I feel like we’ve been getting so many female robot movies lately that I’m becoming less enthusiastic about them.
It hadn’t occurred to me until you mentioned it. My favourite is still Sophie Thatcher’s Iris in Companion (2025).
