An unexpected friendship, post 9/11 and between a young female soldier (Kristen Stewart) and a Guantanamo Bay detainee (Peyman Moaardi) is the premise of director Peter Sattler’s Camp X-Ray.
Both leads, Stewart and Moaardi deliver good performances. But there were definitely times when I had to check the time because things just weren’t moving fast enough.
Perhaps the pace was deliberately slow to give the viewer a better idea of what life at Guantanamo Bay was actually like. Either way, I’m glad I made it to the end because it’s in the last thirty minutes that the most engaging stuff happens.
My curiosities about what could have led to the unlikely friendship I saw in the trailer a few months ago are satisfied.
Watch it if you have the same curiosities and also to get some insight in to what life can be like as a female soldier in the U.S. Army.
