The Lighthouse which stars Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe tells the story of two lighthouse keepers on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s.

A drama/fantasy and horror film, The Lighthouse is directed by Robert Eggers and also stars Valeriia Karaman.

This intriguing trailer has my attention because of how peculiar it appears to be. The peculiarity in this case equals to humour for me, even though comedy is not the film’s official classification.

As a fan of Dafoe especially, I’m interested in the Pattinson/Dafoe on-screen chemistry. I’m not sure they’ve been in a movie together before, but I’m definitely looking forward to this – including the fun accent work and dialogue.

UglyDolls, an animated movie about ‘ugly dolls’ that confronts what it means to be different, and struggle with a desire to be loved, is a film I wanted to enjoy more than I did. 

Starring Nick Jonas, Emma Roberts, Janelle Monáe, and Pitbull, the message about being ourselves and accepting ourselves regardless of perceived imperfections is delivered through a story that unfortunately didn’t succeed at keeping my attention. For that I blame the overall execution, including the pace and rhythm.

Looking on the bright side, however, (no pun intended), there are the colours and cuteness to enjoy. Except that, sadly, colours and cuteness don’t equal a worthy movie experience.

Luckily, for me, there are two or three songs I did like, even though I think the opening track felt forced.

Watch UglyDolls only if if you really must. Otherwise, watch Zootopia (2016) instead. It’s loosely similar but so very, very good.

For those of us who still have our parents, such a predicament often feels too difficult to contemplate. I really just want o see how other people deal with this situation. Especially considering cultural differences.

Directed and co-written by Kirill Mikhanovsky, Give Me Liberty is a comedy about a medical transport driver who’s torn between his promise to shuttle a group of rowdy seniors and a Russian boxer to a funeral, and his desire to help a young black woman with ALS.

Among the key cast are Lauren ‘Lolo’ Spencer, Chris Galust and Maxim Stoyanov.

The comedy categorisation of Give Me Liberty has me interested. I want to see how well all the different personalities will mesh together. Then there’s my general curiosity about the answer to the opening question.

‘When I was your age, I had plenty of ambition. Why don’t you have any?‘

Starring Affleck, Elisabeth Moss, Anna Pniowsky and Tom Bower, it’s the story of a father who disguises his daughter as his son in order to protect her after a plague wipes out most of the female population.

Talk about a nightmare situation for the few females who survive the plague. I need to see how this plays out.
