WAKE UP DEAD MAN – A KNIVES OUT STORY (2025): The Things I Liked…

Writer/director, Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man – A Knives Out Story does what the Knives Out franchise does best, deliver fun, well-executed murder mysteries that have you looking forward to the next instalment.

Starring Daniel Craig as detective Benoit Blanc, this time the scene of the murder is a small-town church with a dark history, arguably an immediately intriguing setting.

Also starring Kerry Washington, Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin and Mila Kunis, in true Knives Out style, the well-titled Wake Up Dead Man has several twists and turns. You won’t see most of them coming, though you may guess a couple.

If you enjoyed Knives Out (2019) and Glass Onion – A Knives Out Story (2023), then don’t hesitate to watch Wake Up Dead Man. The quality and fun are still there. Plus, O’Connor and Brolin are especially great.

Lastly, I have a feeling you won’t want to miss out on that super delicious punch at the beginning.

WAKE UP DEAD MAN – A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY (2025): New Trailer From Daniel Craig, Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Wake Up Dead Man – A Knives Out Mystery(2025).

Caught

Danger is the key word for writer/director Rian Johnson’s latest Knives Out instalment, Wake Up Dead Man – A Knives Out Mystery.

Daniel Craig returns as detective Benoit Blanc to solve the latest case, and new cast members include Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, Josh O’Connor, Mila Kunis and Josh Brolin.

What a wonderful mix of talented actors. I’m hoping to be surprised by who the guilty party is. Though this trailer does seem to suggest that O’Connor’s character is not so innocent.

Are you also looking forward to Craig’s Benoit Blanc working it all out?

Daryl McCormack, Jeremy Renner, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Thomas Haden Church, Kerry Frances and Annie Hamilton also star.

THE SIX TRIPLE EIGHT (2024): New Trailer Starring Kerry Washington, Susan Sarandon, Dean Norris, Sam Waterston…

Kerry Washington, Dean Norris, Susan Sarandon and Sam Waterston are the stars of The Six Triple Eight, a new Tyler Perry-directed/co-written historical drama. One about the contributions of 855 women who joined the war to fix a three-year backlog of undelivered mail.

I’m not usually the biggest watcher of Tyler Perry movies. But I hope this movie will be good. Especially since an actor of Washington’s calibre has attached their name to it.

I’m looking forward to witnessing effective teamwork, human beings lifting each other up, and much more of Washington speaking in that specific accent.

Naturally, this trailer brought to mind Hidden Figures (2016) which was super.

Sarah Jeffery, Austin Nichols, Oprah Winfrey, Gregg Sulkin, Milauna Jackson, Emily Tebbutt, Ebony Obsidian, Pepi Sonuga and Jeanté Godlock also star.

The six Triple Eight Release Dates: December 20th, 2024 (US & UK), Netflix…

THE PROM (2021): New Trailer From Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Kerry Washington, Andrew Rannells…

Starring Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Andrew Rannells and Kerry Washington; Ryan Murphey’s latest creation is comedy/musical film, The Prom.

The Prom is the story of a swarm of self-obsessed theatre stars who arrive in a small conservative Indiana town, in support of a high school girl who wants to take her girlfriend to the prom.

Meryl Streep playing a role that’s the slightest bit reminiscent of her great work in The Devil Wears Prada (2006) is all the reason I need to watch this one, even though musicals aren’t my favourite. I also rather like Washington, Rannells and Kidman.

Keegan-Michael Key, Mary Kay Place, Tracey Ullman, Ariana DeBose, Kevin Chamberlin, Nathaniel J. Potvin, Nico Greetham, Jo Ellen Pellman, Logan Riley and Sebastian Vale also star.

The Prom Release Dates: December 11th, 2020 (US)…

LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE (2020): The Things I Liked…

Little Fires Everywhere (2020), Reese Witherspoon

Set in Shaker Heights, Ohio in the 90s, Little Fires Everywhere is about two families whose lives become intertwined because of their children.

Starring Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington, the ten-episode series is based on Celeste Ng’s best-selling novel of the same name – and it’s very well-acted by all involved.

As a drama about families, the weight of secrets, motherhood and identity; Little Fires Everywhere tackles each topic in powerful and moving ways. One of my favourite moments/lines of dialogue ends with the words: ‘You won’t have to swim forever.’ I also liked the beginning when the families seemed to be getting along. The quiet before the storm.

The complexity of the characters is another highlight. You may not find one to fully identify with or completely like, but chances are, you’ll see their humanity and get some understanding of their struggle, because the writing is so good.

Besides the strong focus on identity, the absence of humour as a key element, and the fact that no one gets murdered, Little Fires Everywhere has a few things in common with the hit series Desperate Housewives. There’s the suburban setting, the secrets and the different experiences of motherhood to name just three.

Outside of a moment in an earlier episode when I wanted things to move along a little faster, Little Fires Everywhere is worth watching for all the above reasons. So give it a chance if you’re curious.
