WHEN THE BOUGH BREAKS (2016): The Thing I Liked…

Starring Morris Chestnut, Regina Hall, Romany Malco, Theo Rossi, Michael Kenneth Williams and Jaz Sinclair; the Jon Cassar directed When The Bough Breaks is a movie that had some promise. This particular story of a surrogate mother becoming dangerously obsessed with the biological father isn’t quite the best of this genre.

The film had me doubting things quite early on, especially when I noticed the overly dramatic sounding music used to make Theo Rossi’s character seem more menacing and dangerous. All it did for me was point out what was lacking in the film in regard s to the script and acting-wise.

The best performances in the movie came from Hall, Chestnut, Malco and Michael Kenneth Williams. In the end, none of it really proved enough to make When The Bough Breaks particularly noteworthy. I actually ended up enjoying some of the cinematography more than I did the story and characters. Especially the shots of that lake house. I’d love to go there!

Cassar’s  movie is one you watch if you really must. Otherwise it’s likely that only those relatively new to movies / films of this genre or big fans of at least one of the stars involved will likely rate it more highly. If you think I’m wrong, do share your thoughts in the comments below.

THE BEST MAN HOLIDAY (2013): For The Friendships, Humour & Well Executed Dramatics…

Taye Diggs, Terence Howard, Nia Long, Sanaa Lathan, Morris Chestnut, Melissa De Sousa, Monica Calhoun and Harold Perrineau are all back and joined by Eddie Cibrian and John Michael Higgins in The Best Man Holiday (2013), the sequel to the 1999 hit, The Best Man.

I don’t remember actually wishing for a sequel but I sure am glad that it came. I’m even more glad because the writer/ director of both movies, Malcolm D. Lee took his sweet time with the second film – something that I find, often leads to a better quality finished product.

Set during the holiday / Christmas period, The Best Man Holiday (2013) brings seasonal cheer and laughter – thanks to the fun banter between the characters. As was the case with the first movie, everything is not all big smiles and good times.

The movie has a good mix of memorable comedy and well executed dramatic moments. One of my favourites of the former category has to be John Michael Higgins’s character’s response to Harper (Taye Diggs) when Harper says ‘I don’t even know if biographies is my thing.’

Watch it if you want to experience some laughter, drama and friendship especially in testing times. If you love the characters as much I do, lets all cross our fingers and hope for something great because a sequel, The best Man Wedding has been announced.

Read my spoiler-free movie review of When The Bough Breaks (2016).

The relationship between a surrogate mother and the couple she’s helping going wrong is the subject of When The Bough Breaks, the latest mystery / horror / drama starring Morris Chestnut and Regina Hall…

Trailer 1

‘Lust’ Trailer

Written and directed by Jack Cassar, I’m interested in this movie because of the subject matter. There’s been a few scary stories in the media about relationships between surrogates and couples falling apart. Maybe I’ll learn a thing or two.

As the trailers played, I couldn’t help but wonder that surely both parties signed a contract which would mean such madness shouldn’t get so far, right? But then again, I remember, the law, it’s not and never has been a perfect thing.

When The Bough Breaks Release Dates: September 16th, 2016 (US)….

THE PERFECT GUY (2015): New Trailer Starring Michael Ealy & Morris Chestnut Thriller

The Perfect Guy stars Morris Chestnut, Sanaa Lathaan and Michael Ealy and it has a new trailer.

No one is ever really perfect, of course and this David M, Rosenthal directed movie deals with one scary extreme. The point when a masculine, protective male crosses the line and becomes something else entirely.

Looking forward to seeing how the story plays out; though I can probably guess. Still, I’m hoping that my expectations will be exceeded, especially considering the trailer has already shown what looks like at least 90% of the plot.

Happy The Perfect Guy 🙂
