THE BLUFF (2026): The Things I Liked…

As full of tropes as it may be, I found The Bluff, the latest Frank E. Flowers action-adventure from Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Karl Urban, rather satisfying and entertaining.

Set in the 19th-century Caribbean, Chopra Jonas plays Ercell, a woman who fights to protect her family after her island is invaded by vicious buccaneers.

The story, Chopra’s action movie chops, the fun set pieces, the look and feel, plus Urban’s engaging villainy, made for zero regrets for me about the time spent.

There is one moment that didn’t quite have me locked in, when Urban’s Captain Connor delivers a speech to his crew after they witness the full extent of Ercell’s deliciously vengeful wrath, but it’s a minor blip.

I got exactly what I needed from The Bluff. You might too, if you don’t mind violent yet easy-viewing, fun revenge stories led by badass women.

THE BLUFF (2026): New Trailer Starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Karl Urban, Temuera Morrison…

After her Island is invaded by vicious buccaneers, a Caribbean woman’s secret past is revealed as she fights to protect her family.

Set in the 19th century Caribbean, the Frank E. Flowers-directed The Bluff stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Temuera Morrison and Karl Urban.

You wouldn’t be wrong to be surprised that I’m interested in watching this, especially given that I recently labelled The Death of Robin Hood (2026) as likely far too gruesome for me. And yes, this also has similar qualities. But it turns out my deep love of vengeance stories trumps any aversion I have to gratuitous movie violence. Case in point: you should have seen me at the end of season four, episode two of Game of Thrones (2011–2019). Schadenfreude times infinity, scientists might say.

Will this be the most satisfying revenge story I’ve ever seen? Unlikely. But I’m still hoping there’s some fun to be had along the way. Maybe a couple of great scenes.

How does this trailer have you feeling? Reminiscing about King Joffrey, and his not timely enough demise, perhaps?

Ismael Cruz Cordova, Safia Oakley-Green, Zack Morris, Gary Beadle, David Field, Greg Hatton, Sachin Joab, Pacharo Mzembe, Jordan Mooney and Ronnie James Hughes.

THE WRECKING CREW (2026): The Things I Liked…

The Wrecking Crew, Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista’s latest action/comedy, is exactly the kind of entertaining movie fun I’ve been waiting for.

Playing estranged brothers who team up to solve their father’s murder in Hawaii, what I enjoyed most was the big brother/little brother dynamic between Momoa and Bautista’s characters. The humour mostly lands, the action is fun and engaging, and the fight choreography is creative and excitingly shot.

I also remember noticing some impressive special-effects makeup that made a few audience members gasp. Meanwhile, I was busy smiling with appreciation because the filmmaking team clearly cared enough to make it that good. The corpse-face reveal during the scene at Robichaux’s house was a particular standout.

Most of the soundtrack is also a highlight. That said, the one part of director Angel Manuel Soto’s film that didn’t quite land for me is a scene toward the end where it’s just Bautista’s character fighting the Yakuza. I didn’t love the music choice there, and the choreography felt less exciting and creative than in earlier sequences.

Watch The Wrecking Crew for genuinely fun, definitely imperfect, but in my view still very worthwhile action-comedy entertainment. Be warned, though: teeth do get smashed (among other things), which, for me, only added to the fun. If you’re even a little squeamish, you may find yourself watching a few scenes through your fingers.

THE WRECKING CREW (2026): New Trailer Starring Dave Bautista, Jason Momoa, Claes Bang, Morena Baccarin…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of The Wrecking Crew (2026).

Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa are estranged half-brothers in the new Angel Manuel Soto-directed action/comedy, The Wrecking Crew.

James (Bautista) and Jonny (Momoa) must work together to solve the mystery surrounding their father’s death.

Fun, fun, FUN! Bring on the fun with this pairing I didn’t know I’d like so much.

Somehow, it feels ‘wrong’ that Dwayne Johnson isn’t in this. Not that he should be in everything seemingly set in Hawaii. But you see what I mean, right?

Jacob Batalon, Frankie Adams, Miyavi, Stephen Root, Temuera Morrison, David Hekili Kenui Bell, Mark R Black, Marris Collins, Makana David and Mike Edward also star.

The Wrecking Crew Release Dates: January 28th, 2026 (US & UK)…

MOANA 2 (2024): New Trailer Starring Dwayne Johnson, Auli’i Cravalho, Alan Tudyk, Nicole Scherzinger, Temuera Morrison…

Directed by David G. Derrick Jr., Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller; Moana 2 offers a new adventure that goes to the far seas of Oceania, into dangerous, long-lost waters.

Returning key cast includes Dwayne Johnson, Auli’i Cravalho, Nicole Scherzinger, Alan Tudyk and Temura Morrison.

My favourite thing about the first Moana movie was the cuteness of baby Moana. Having re-watched it in anticipation of this sequel, I found plenty more to love than I could see at first viewing.

In fact, Moana is now my favourite Disney movie about the adventures of a courageous young lady. Said title used to belong to Brave (2012). That is until I rewatched Brave and Moana last week. I now realise that what I loved about Brave was Merida’s courage and independent spirit. Her super cute and mischievous triplet brothers were also a highlight.

As for Moana, I love everything, including the music, story, and animation. I guess Merida’s courage really resonated with me back in 2012. So much so that it’s near enough all I retained while forgetting about the mother/bear story element, which has proven to be quite forgettable.

Are you looking forward to a brand new Moana adventure?

Rachel House, David Fane, Awhimai Fraser, Hualalai Chung, Rose Matafeo also star.

Moana 2 Release Dates: November 27th 2024 (US); November 29th, 2024 (UK)…
