KNOCK AT THE CABIN (2023): New Trailer From M. Night Shyamalan, Starring Dave Bautista, Kristen Cui, Ben Aldridge, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Jonathan Groff…

Dave Bautista, Kristen Cui, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge and Nikki Amuka-Bird are the cast of Knock at the Cabin, the latest horror/mystery/thriller from M. Night Shyamalan.

At the centre of the story of a young family taken hostage by armed strangers. Strangers who demand the family decide what they believe, in order to make an unthinkable decision.

I’ve seen this trailer approximately four times now, and the one thing that has stayed consistent regarding my thoughts is how wonderful a young actor Kristen Cui, the young girl in this movie, seems to be.

Another thing that hasn’t changed with each viewing is how promising it all seems. That is until towards the end when Bautista’s character says: ‘…Your family has been chosen to make a horrible decision. If you fail to choose, the world will end.’

After all that engaging mystery, I’m sad to say that I find myself disappointed by this seemingly simplistic and somewhat underwhelming turn of events. I’m very likely judging far too soon, of course, and I may just have tired of the ‘or the world will end.’ However, there is Shyamalan’s reputation, which most certainly precedes him.

What are your feelings about this trailer? Is it time for a good Shyamalan movie? Fingers crossed that I’m way off – and Knock at the Cabin turns out to be great.

Abby Quinn, Jerry Lobrow, William Ragsdale, Clare Louise Frost, Kat Murphy, Debbie Lay, Satomi Hofmann, McKenna Kerrigan, Mike Wilson, Michael J. Kraycik, Scott Vogel and Brian Foreman also star.

Knock at the Cabin Release Dates: February 3rd, 2023 (US & UK)…

ARMY OF THE DEAD (2021): nEW trailer From Zack Snyder, Starring Garret Dillahunt, Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick…

The new trailer for Zack Snyder’s zombie outbreak in Las Vegas movie, Army of the Dead has landed, and it’s looking like a lot of fun.

Omari Hardwick, Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell and Garret Dillahunt are among the key cast.

I find myself far more excited than I expected to be. Unsurprising with such a good trailer edit and well-chosen music. I particularly can’t wait to see the ways that this new age of zombies are smarter, faster, etc.

I’m also very interested in the unexpected cast. There are so many faces I hadn’t pictured together, but suddenly it all seems to make sense.

Lastly, doesn’t it feel just right that the movie title is about the smart zombies and not the other guys? I guess it’s about time we had a smart, extra capable bunch of the undead. Full disclosure, I’m speaking as someone whose experience of zombie films largely starts and ends with the rather impressive Train to Busan (2016). So, feel free to correct me.

Ana de la Reguera, Tig Notaro, Nora Arnezeder, Lora Martinez-Cunningham, Samantha Win, Matthias Schweighöfer, Lyon Beckwith, Theo Rossi, Michael Cassidy and Raúl Castillo also star.

Directed and co-written by Zack Snyder; Army of the Dead is a new action/crime/horror about a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas. In the midst of it all, a group of mercenaries decide to take the ultimate gamble, and venture into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.

Garret Dillahunt, Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell and Ana de la Reguera star.

I love the synopsis of the movie, in part because it brings to mind good memories of watching un heist movie, Ocean’s Eleven (2001). And my favourite zombie film, Train to Busan (2016).

Hopefully this will be the perfect mix of both genres.

Nora Arnezeder, Samantha Win, Matthias Schweighöfer, Lyon Beckwith, Theo Rossi, Tig Notaro, Michael Cassidy, Omari Hardwick, Lora Martinez-Cunningham and Raúl Castillo also star.

STUBER (2019): The Thing I Liked…

Stuber (2019), Kumail Nanjiani, 20th Century Fox
Stuber (2019), Kumail Nanjiani, 20th Century Fox

In Dave Bautista and Kumail Nanjiani’s action / comedy Stuber, where a cop recruits his Uber driver into an unexpected night of adventure, Bautista and Nanjiani’s characters did deliver some amusement. Yet, if I had to choose, my favourite characters were played by Betty Gilpin – because there’s just something about her delivery, and Iko Uwais, thanks to his great stunt work as villain Oka Tedjo.

Minus some of Nanjiani’s lines which felt unnecessary and out of place, Bautista’s Vic Manning and Nanjiani’s Stu had some good moments. It’s just unfortunate that I definitely lost faith in the movie because I couldn’t believe that anyone in their right mind would remove their protective glasses within a few hours of undergoing laser eye surgery – and against doctor’s orders. It’s even worse because not only did I not believe the decision, I didn’t buy the character’s motivation for making said decision.

Perhaps your own tolerance for a character’s carelessness with their vision is much higher than mine and Stuber definitely has some good / fun dialogue- and action sequences. As such, why not give it a chance if you’re intrigued?

To those who’ve already read my thoughts on Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014), you’ll know that I didn’t completely love the movie. Regardless of that truth though, I’m still determined to see as many of the stand alone films of each Avengers Endgame (2019) character as possible. And with that goal in mind, a few days ago I sat myself down to two hours and sixteen minutes of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2.

My expectations weren’t exactly the highest, as one might imagine. So picture my surprise when I found myself having a good time almost immediately.

In trying to understand what had changed, it became clear that , the story is simply much better this time round. I found it more interesting. I definitely enjoyed the surprises within the script as well as the elaboration on the backstory of several of the main characters. I’m also quite sure that there weren’t any sentimental moments or attempts at humour that felt hugely forced. I imagine that everything was that little bit better because the actors were more comfortable in their roles.

I still stand by the truth that I didn’t enjoy Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014), but I’m also sure that my appreciation of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2. isn’t a result of me learning to ignore any of the humour that doesn’t quite land or ignore any general corniness within the script. I really did like the new characters, find the story more fun, and appreciated the special effects that little bit extra.

With all that said I now say, watch it because it’s good and especially if you’re sure I’m not completely mad.

STUBER (2019): New Trailer From Dave Bautista, Kumail Nanjiani, KAREN GILLAN, Iko Uwais…

Stuber (2019), Dave Bautista, Kumail Nanjiani, 20th Century Fox

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Stuber (2019).

Dave Bautista, Kumail Nanjiani, Karen Gillian and Iko Uwais are the stars of new action / comedyStuber.

Directed by Michael Dowse, Bautista plays a detective who recruits his Uber driver (Nanjiani) into an unexpected night of adventure…

The pairing of Bautista and Nanjiani looks like a great idea with very entertaining results. Just the previous day I mentioned having not seen Bautista in many roles where he’s the lead. And now we have two in a row. I’m definitely not in any way complaining.

Natalie Morales, Betty Gilpin, Mira Sorvino, Jimmy Tatro, Joshua Mikel, Scott Lawrence and Christine Horn also star.

Stuber Release Dates: July 12th, 2019 (US & UK)…

MY SPY (2019): New Trailer From Dave Bautista, Ken Jeong, Chloe Coleman, KRISTEN SCHAAL…

My Spy (2019), Chloe Coleman, Dave Bautista, STX Entertainment
My Spy (2019), Chloe Coleman, Dave Bautista, STX Entertainment

In Peter Segal directed family movie My Spy, Dave Bautista is JJ, a hardened CIA operative sent to surveil the family of a precocious 9 year-old name Sophie. In no time at all, JJ finds himself at the mercy of Sophie’s disarming charm and wit.

Other key cast members include Chloe Colman, Ken Jeong, Kristen Schaal…

I’m quite sure that My Spy will be the first movie I see with Bautista as the lead. It’s a little bit the story but really, it’s mostly the onscreen chemistry between Bautista and young Coleman that has me most curious.

On a side note, Dwayne Johnson definitely did cross my mind as this trailer played and I’m sure you know why; wink, wink.

Michelle McLeod, Parisa Fitz-Henley, Nicola Correia-Damude, Laura Cilevitz, Sima Fisher, Ali Hassan and Marcus Cornwall also star.

My Spy Release Dates: August 23rd, 2019 (US); August 30th, 2019 (UK)…
