Boom for Real – The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat is a Sara Driver-directed documentary about one of America’s most celebrated artists.
Driver’s film explores Basquiat’s pre-fame years and how New York City, its people, and arts culture of the late 1970s and ’80s shaped Basquiat’s vision.
More than an appreciation for his art – something I know very little about, I’m more interested in understanding Basquiat’s journey to greatness. Even more so because the general aesthetic of his work isn’t the kind of thing that would typically be found hanging on my wall.
The idea of John Boyega playing Basquiat in a movie just suddenly entered my mind and it’s absolutely refusing to leave.

I think the guy who plays Denzel’s son in Fences could also do it. 🙂
I do not… disagree. I don’t disagree. 😁
