SPIRAL (2021): New Trailer Starring Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Max Minghella, Morgan David Jones…

Spiral (2020), Samuel L. Jackson, Lionsgate Movies

The book of Saw has a terrifying new chapter.

Staring Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Max Minghella and Morgan David Jones; crime/horror Spiral is about a criminal mastermind’s unleashing of a twisted form of justice.

I’m intrigued because I want to see Rock do well in this lead role. And I like the idea of one of my favourite comics sharing screen time with Jackson.

However, the reason I may not see Spiral includes the fact that I’m yet to watch a single movie in the Saw series; mainly on account of horror not being my favourite genre. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean I’m not excited for fans of Saw.

Ali Johnson, Dan Petronijevic, Edie Inksetter, Leila Leigh, Max Minghella, Christopher Tai, John Tokatlidis, Genelle Williams, and Leonidas Castrounis also star.

Spiral Release Dates: May 14th, 2021 (US); May 21st, 2021 (UK)…

WRATH OF MAN (2021): New Trailer From Guy Ritchie; Starring Jason Statham, Scott Eastwood, Josh Hartnet,t Jeffrey Donovan…

Wrath of Man (2021), Jason Statham, MGM
Wrath of Man (2021), Jason Statham, MGM

Directed by Guy Ritchie, Wrath of Man stars Jason Statham, Josh Hartnett, Scott Eastwood and Jeffrey Donovan in an action/thriller about H.

From writers Ivan Atkinson and Nicolas Boukhrief, H is a cold and mysterious character working at a cash truck company. A company responsible for moving hundreds of millions of dollars around Los Angeles every week.

Even though Ritchie isn’t the writer, I can’t wait to see his directorial style all over this. I already love the clip accompanied by exactly the right type of music when the shooting starts.

Statham and Ritchie back working together is great to see. If my memory serves me well, they last collaborated in my two favourite Ritchie movies: Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), plus Snatch (2000). Then there’s Hartnett, an actor I last saw in Oh, Lucy (2017), a fun, quirky movie.

Wrath of Man Release Dates: May 7th, 2021 (US); June 25th, 2021 (UK)…

LIFE IN COLOUR (2021): New Trailer For New David Attenborough Nature Documentary…

Life In Colour (2021), Netflix
Life In Colour (2021), Netflix

Starring David Attenborough and a bunch of planet Earth’s most beautiful animals, Life in Colour is the latest nature documentary from Netflix.

This time, the focus is on exploring the many ways that animals use colour throughout their lives.

My colour-loving and Attenborough-appreciating self is definitely making time for this. Also, the music in this trailer puts me in such a good and hopeful mood. I can’t wait to see what Attenborough has to say about all the gorgeous hues.

Life in Colour Release Dates: April 22nd, 2021 (US), Netflix

DEFENDING JACOB (2020): The Things I Liked…

Defending Jacob (2020), Michelle Dockery Apple TV+
Defending Jacob (2020), Michelle Dockery, Apple TV+

There are parts I thoroughly enjoyed in Michelle Dockery, Chris Evans and Jaeden Martell’s Defending Jacobthe story of two parents who have to deal with the idea that their fourteen-year-old son might be responsible for murdering his classmate. Yet, I can’t say I completely loved the experience of watching it.

The best moments besides the big revelation in the courtroom is  Dockery’s performance. Evans wasn’t terrible and Martell is a very talented young man. I only wish I enjoyed the series in its entirety and spent less  time asking questions such as:

Do we really need to keep going back and forth between Evans’s character in the present day as he recounts what happened? It doesn’t seem to be adding much to the experience.’

Why isn’t this a two-part, or four-part series instead of eight?

The truth is I could do with more patience when it comes to movies and TV shows. However, all I want is for something I’m watching to be fully engaging, to the point where I’m happily lost in it, rather than having to question editing decisions.

I like the idea of a story about the possibility that one’s child could be a psychopath, and I felt for Dockery’s character. The bigger issue is likely that I’ve seen elements of this story in other productions several times before. A truth that then makes this experience less impressive.

If you’re especially curious, give Defending Jacob a chance. You may find that you love it just the way it is. And that you have a lot more patience than I do.

LOCKED IN (2021): New Trailer Starring Mena Suvari, Jasper Polish, Jeff Fahey, Costas Mandylor…

Locked In (2021), Jasper Polish, Mena Suvari
Locked In (2021), Jasper Polish, Mena Suvari

Read my spoiler-free movie review of  Locked In (2021).

New crime/thriller Locked In has Mena Suvari as a single mother who must protect her daughter and herself after a heist at a high-tech storage facility goes wrong.

Written/directed by Carlos V. Gutierrez; additional key cast includes Jeff Fahey, Jasper Polish and Costas Mandylor.

I’ve never entered a storage facility before, but every time I walk past one, thoughts of how easy it might be to get lost in there, and how creepy it likely feels cross my mind,

I want this to be one of those movies that’s highly engaging and thrilling, even though most of the action takes place in one building.

Bruno Bichir, Manny Perez, Natalie Smith, James Biberi and Joanne Lamstein also star.

Locked In Release Dates: May 7th, 2021 (US)…
