Cord Jefferson is the writer/director behind Jeffrey Wright’s latest film, American Fiction; a comedy/drama that follows a black author who finds himself propelled to the depths of hypocrisy in order to secure literary success.
I’m currently in a phase of leaning towards comedy films more than any other genre, and American Fiction looks just right.
I say bring on all the fun, silliness and this wonderful cast. I’m particularly excited about the author/agent dynamic.

Just watched this last night. So far, it’s my favorite movie of the year.
So glad you enjoyed it. 🤓 I certainly haven’t watched all the well-reviewed films out this year yet, but so far, it’s also my favourite. A very refreshing experience.
Now I have to read the book.
I may also have to do that at some point. The Title ‘American Fiction’ fits so perfectly for the film, I wonder if Erasure will feel just as right for Percival Everett’s book.

This time of year my husband, who’s a film critic, is inundated with screeners. Every now and then I get to watch one with him. Most of them are yawns, but he told me I should watch this one, and refused to say what it was about. It had me hooked from the first scene.
Your husband took the right approach. Sometimes all you need to know from a trusted source is that a film is good. That way, everything that happens is an exciting surprise. I took two people with me to see American Fiction and they too had a great time. I’m excited for Cord Jefferson’s next project, whatever that may be.
