Joker: Folie à Deux (2024), Joaquin Phoenix, Warner Bros. Pictures

JOKER – FOLIE À DEUX (2024): New Trailer From Todd Phillips, starring Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Lady Gaga, Catherine Keener…

Joker – Folie À Deux (Madness for Two), the highly anticipated sequel to the story of Gotham City’s most beloved villain is soon upon us.

Directed and co-written by Todd Philips, this time, Joaquin Phoenix is joined by Lady Gaga, Steve Coogan, Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener to name just a few.

Admittedly, much of the subject matter of Joker (2019) made me sad. Thankfully, however, all the tragic material was balanced by the plenty there was to appreciate as far as great filmmaking is concerned. It is largely for this reason, plus my general appreciation of the talents of Phoenix and Phillips, that we can all consider my ticket for this release well and truly purchased.

We all have to suffer for our art sometimes, right? In this case, it’s suffering for the art I love to consume, as opposed to the art that I’m creating.

Another way I’ll potentially suffer while watching this is because I dislike, am turned off by and largely HATE 99.9% of musicals. But, hey. I at least have to try in this case, right?

Lastly, can Phillips, Joaquin and I also consider your ticket for Joker – Folie à Deux, well and truly purchased? Confirm at once!

Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Steve Coogan, Ken Leung, Jacob Lofland, Gattlin Griffith, Leigh Gill Sharon Washington, Troy Metcalf, Harry Lawtey, Tim Dillon, George Carroll and Mike Houston also star.

Folie à Deux Release Dates: October 4th, 2024 (US & UK)…

Happy Film Loving,

G

  1. Hopefully for me this trailer is all the fire I needed under my feet to finally watch the first one! 😀

About the musicals, I feel similarly, but I do give them an occasional chance. “Chicago”, “Evita”, “Grease” and “Hair” were good, I loved “Moulin Rouge!” and “Annie”, “Wizard of Oz”, “Singin’ in the Rain” and “My Fair Lady” are a classic, “Mamma Mia!” was fun… It seems I’ve seen more than I realized. 🙂

Also a buch of animated movies (Disney mainly) are considered musicals.

    1. 😁! It seems like you just realised that you actually LOVE musicals, and that’s okay. 🤓
That’s so true about Disney films largely being musicals. Somehow they are that little bit more tolerable. Nevertheless, the singing parts are still the ones I most want to skip.

      1. By the end of the 90s I got tired of singing parts in animated Disney movies as well, but some parts are good and fun especially when they are integrated into the story (Lion King is a good example).

      2. The Lion King is one of the better ones. And I do like some of the songs in The Little Mermaid. I’d still choose no singing if given the choice. 😁 The worst is when there are too many songs and only two max are worthwhile.

Thank goodness that Cinderella (2015) was not a musical, because I definitely wouldn’t like it as much as I do. 🙏

      3. I started watching movies about 45 years ago so that’s not that many musicals. In Letterboxd I have logged over 3400 titles so % is very low. 😂

  2. Gaga should be interesting to watch in this; along with all the other key things that were excellent about the first film.

  3. I’m one of those folks who did not care for Joker, although I too admire the work that went into it, and the acting throughout it. I had no interest at all in this second one, and then I heard about the musical angle. I am v-e-r-y picky about seeing musicals, and Mrs. Chess has no interest in them whatsoever. Yet, this may be the “car crash” I can’t look away from. We may have to see this just because it sounds so bonkers.

    1. 🥂 Here’s to hoping that the only ‘car crash’ that’s linked to Joker – Folie à Deux is a great action sequence or two. I think knowing that Gaga sings well gives me a little more confidence in the end result. Still, I remain skeptical because, you know, musicals.

  4. Wow, before I just watched the trailer, I probably wouldn’t seek out this movie, it’s not my genre, but I have to admit that it really looks good, at least from the trailer! Thank you G, for always making me look a little further! 😉

      1. It sure did take over the zeitgeist for a while; considering the key themes surrounding mental health. I hope you enjoy at least some parts of it, including the use of colour, when/if the mood to watch it strikes. 🤓
