The original film was about a rollicking ghost hired to help haunt a house.
Beetlejuice (1988) is one of those movie titles I’m aware of. But, before this post, if I’d been asked to explain what the film is about, all I’d have for you is: ‘Michael Keaton, a black and white striped outfit, crazy green hair and Tim Burton.’ I may even have uttered the words: ‘Sort of like Edward Scissorhands(?)’ which I’m quite certain would be very incorrect.
I know little about the original movie because I’ve probably never seen it. However, I’m interested because the original was clearly well received, plus, Ortega’s involvement is a highlight, as is the peculiarity of ‘the Juice‘ himself.
What’s your history with Beetlejuice? How familiar are you with the original movie and are you curious about this continuation?

I love Beetlejuice. It’s Tim Burton’s best movie. Or at least the one that best represents his unique gothic style. I’m hopeful that the sequel will do well.
Exciting! Since I haven’t seen it yet, your description makes me think that Beetlejuice is to Tim Burton, what Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is to Guy Ritchie. The idea of that makes me smile. š
I’m waiting for this, just to see Winona Ryder back with Catherine O’Hara! Hope there’s another great musical number!

Since you loved the first one, you definitely have to see this follow-up. Even if it isn’t as good, it’s fun to somehow re-live the past.
Let’s see if I feel similarly after watching Beverly Hills Cop – Axel F (2024), which is out in July.
Saw the original when it first came out, and a whole bunch of times since. Can’t wait for this new film come September, and I am glad everyone waited until they had a great story (apparently) and a greater cast (no doubt about that!).

I think a lot of it had to do with Keaton simply being Keaton. He was so “hot” at that time, and people just naturally gravitated to this over-the-top (even for Keaton) performance.
That makes it sound extra intriguing. š¤ I mostly know Keaton since the movie Birdman. Before then, I understand that he was Batman but I havenāt actually seen his version of Batman
