Yahya Abdul-Mateen II stars as John Creasy, a wounded former mercenary driven by revenge after losing his only companion, all while defending his fallen colleague’s daughter from the same forces that destroyed her family.
Additional key cast includes Billy Blanco Jr, Elizabeth Leiner and Alex Ozerov-Meyer.
Unfortunately, the Denzel Washington movie on which this series is based is still on the shelf labelled ‘to watch.’ I’ll be allowing time for that at some point before diving into this series.
I’m into the The Equalizer (2014) action movie-type energy here. Additionally, my favourite thing about this trailer, so far, is the music featured. If I didn’t know better, I’d say it was Kanye West. It’s not. Because it’s actually Joznez, Ditone & Kataem.
Are you a fan of Man on Fire (2004)?
David Will No, Grace Shen, Juliana Spínola, Mursi Haynes, Kristi Monson, Bobby Cannavale, Scoot McNairy, Alice Braga, Billie Boullet and Paul Ben-Victor also star.
Man on Fire Release Dates: April 30th, 2026…

I loved the kind and gentle Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the HBO series, “Watchmen.” Not sure I want to see him as a lethal weapon. Since it’s on Netflix, I will probably watch it.
I’ve never seen Watchmen. I’ve only ever seen Yahya as in charge, a villain in Aquaman (2018), or super vulnerable in The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020).
If you ever get a chance, please watch it. He plays a stay-at-home husband and father and his wife is a superhero. EXCELLENT series!
I think his role as you’ve described it has me convinced. Thank you, Lisa! 🤓🥂
Cheers!
I meant to add that I fully understand your hesitation. Sometimes we can’t help but be attached to seeing performers in a certain way. I had something similar when I learned that Matt Damon would be a villain in Interstellar (2014). And Denzel as possibly a Villain in The Little Things (2021). 🤓
Gia, thanks for understanding <3
I, too, haven’t seen the Denzel Man on Fire. A great idea for both of us to start there, I think.
