American Doctor is a Poh Si Teng-directed documentary about three American doctors, one Palestinian, one Jewish, and one Zoroastrian.
All three (Thaer Ahmad, Mark Perlmutter and Feroze Sidhwa) enter Gaza to save lives and end up caught between medicine and politics.
My appreciation for and curiosity about those who put themselves in harm’s way to help others is one reason I’m drawn to this one.
What a well-chosen title this documentary has. It’s almost as if they consulted with the makers of Colliding Dreams (2015) to ensure this film was perfectly titled.
American Doctor Release Dates: August 14th, 2026 (Limited), (US); November 20th, 2026 (UK)
Happy Film Loving,
G
can’t wait and know it will be sad
Yes, sad for sure, but fingers crossed, also hopeful.
Wow. This looks vital.
Agreed.
My wife is a doctor. So I’m personally aware of what that means. And what drives them to help people. But also not all doctors are the same. They are people with different backgrounds and motivations. Not every doctor could do what these guys are doing. This movie shows the extreme cases of the most selfless human beings you can imagine putting themselves in harms way to help others. When patients are children that calling is even higher.
I’ll watch this with my wife.
I agree with all you wrote.
It’s very true that not all doctors are the same. Just as not all soldiers are the same, as The Hurt Locker (2008) taught us.
I hope you and your wife find the film worthwhile.
