Directed by Antoine Fuqua of Training Day (2001), Shooter is an action/thriller I’ve wanted to watch for a while.
Starring Mark Wahlberg as Bob Lee Swagger, an expert marksman who finds himself framed for an assassination, Fuqua’s film is quite a satisfying watch. And Wahlberg is as convincing an action movie lead as ever.
I enjoyed the story and pacing, but admittedly, Shooter is no Training Day. In fact, I will declare once again that I’ll likely never get over how well-told a story Training Day is. And I pity the fool who hasn’t made time to see it!
I’m kidding about that last part. It’s just that I recently saw a trailer for a new documentary about Mr T. You understand.
One more thing about Shooter is that I found it quite easy to guess where the story was heading early on, even though Swagger seemingly didn’t see what was coming. I’ve since gone back to watch the trailer, which happens to give that specific element of the plot away anyway. So, I guess it matters not.

The Mr. T reference had me lol. Totally understandable you’d channel him in this moment. Training Day was to me so many tiers above this one, but Shooter was pretty good. As you noted, it was pretty obvious how the movie was gonna unfold.
I’m glad the Mr T reference landed. 😁 Some movies are still worth watching even when we know what’s likely to happen at every stage. Not that I want to encourage trailer edits that reveal too much or overly formulaic, clichéd writing!
