Alex Gibney | The Movie My Life

Written/directed by Jed Rothstein, The China Hustle is a close look at the Wall Street horror story about Chinese companies, the American stock market, and the opportunistic greed behind the biggest heist you’ve never heard of.

This trailer is too long, and I’ve seen a good number of documentaries with capitalism as a key subject matter, so I basically feel as though I’ve seen them all. The difference with this one is, of course, the China angle.

I’m interested in seeing whether any revelations in this documentary will truly surprise me.

Elián is the story of Elian Gonzalez, the 5-year-old Cuban boy plucked from the Florida Straits on Thanksgiving Day in 1999.

Several others, including Elian’s mother, are believed to have perished at sea, leaving Elian in the middle of a custody battle with his Cuban father and Miami-based relatives on opposite sides.

The name Elian Gonzalez is one I only really know of because ‘superior comic’ Dave Chappelle mentioned him in one of his standup specials. I want to find out what’s happened since that fateful Thanksgiving day in 1999.
