Back Roads is a new drama / thriller starring and directed by Alex Pettyfer.

Also starring Jennifer Morrison and Juliette Lewis; at the heart of the story is Hayley (Pettyfer), a young man stuck in the Pennsylvania backwoods and who must care for his three younger sisters after the shooting death of his abusive father and the arrest of his mother.

As Hayley struggles to take care of his siblings, family secrets and unspoken truths threaten to consume him…

I find myself interested in finding out how things came to go so very wrong for this family. Hayley’s journey has me very curious indeed. I don’t know what path he was on before having to take care of his sisters but the shift couldn’t have been easy.

Nicola Peltz, Danika Yarosh, Robert Longstreet, Robert Patrick and Tom Everett Scott also star.

ELVIS & NIXON (2016): New Trailer Starring Kevin Spacey & Michael Shannon

I saw the names Kevin Spacey and Michael Shannon which led me to immediately watching the new trailer for the Liza Johnson directed comedy,  Elvis & Nixon…

In terms of the casting, at first I thought, ‘What? Michael Shannon? As Elvis?’ But then I finished watching the trailer…

Shannon certainly doesn’t bear much of a facial resemblance to Elvis Presley but it does look like he’s succeeded in all the other key areas. I say this having not heard him sing. In fact, I’m not even sure that he’ll sing at all in the film. I’ll be watching for the comedy and the two lead actors.

Evan Peters, Colin Hanks and Alex Pettyfer also star.

MAGIC MIKE (2012): First For The Spectacle, Then The Story

Magic Mike (2012) Matt Bomer, Channing Tatum, Adam Rodriguez, Joe Manganiello

A film about male strippers with Channing Tatum in the leading role isn’t something that’s particularly easy to ignore; even when you suspect that it may not be amazing.

The first time I watched the Steven Soderbergh directed story about a male stripper with a plan, I have to admit, I was probably too distracted by the dance moves and baby oil.

It was during the second viewing a few years later that I found myself appreciating Soderbergh’s vision a little more. Not to say that the film is now in my list of favourites because it did feel a tad long. However, this time round the lead character’s story and internal struggle is the thing I paid attention to and I’m glad I did.

Matthew McConaughey is very entertaining as Dallas; the seasoned male stripper in charge. Joe Manganiello, Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer, Adam Rodriguez, Cody Horn and Olivia Munn also star.

I can’t say that I’ve heard great things about the sequel, Magic Mike XXL (2015). But what you hear all depends on who’s asked and what motivated them to watch.

Happy Magic Mike 🙂
