Starring Anthony Anderson, Uzo Aduba, Khalil Everage and Emayatzy Corinealdi, Beats is a promising new coming-of-age drama set in Chicago’s South Side.

Directed by Chris Robinson, the story focuses on a reclusive teenage musical prodigy and his unlikely friendship with a down-on-his-luck high school security guard.

This well-edited trailer has me interested because of the way Uzo Aduba’s character asks the revealing question: ‘Are you gonna… make sure my son doesn’t get shot walking home from school?‘

Another reason to see this is the fact that I already feel quite invested in August’s complete evolution. I want to see him make it through to the other side, and I definitely want to know just how great his beats actually are.

Last but not least, did I already mention Uzo Aduba? Something tells me we’re really going to enjoy her performance.

Starring Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer, Eve and Michael Ealy, before watching Barbershop, I had quite a clear idea about how director Tim Story’s Chicago based Barbershop comedy was going to turn out.

There’s humorous banter among those who work in the barbershop and the sometimes peculiar patrons/random visitors. It’s not all laughs, of course, there’s a little drama thrown in, too.

As fun as the barbershop banter is, what I loved most about the movie actually takes place outside the barbershop. It’s all the comedy that comes from everything the characters played by Lahmard J. Tate and Anthony Anderson get up to.
