Jay Myself is a documentary about renowned photographer Jay Maisel. In February 2015, Maisel had to sell his thirty six thousand square foot New York city home and move.

Filmmaker and Maisel’s protégé Stephen Wilkes captured the move and through Jay Myself, he shares the photographer’s life as an artist, mentor, and man grappling with time, life, change, and the end of an era in New York City.

I’m interested because I love a perfectly arresting image. The kind that makes everything else around disappear, and there’s just one and the art.

Something tells me that I may find a bunch of captivating images in this film. I mean, I’d never heard of Maisel until this trailer, and he is a ‘renowned photographer’ after all – plus the blue image above is particularly gorgeous, isn’t it?

24 Frames (2017)
24 Frames (2017)

Inspired by still images, including paintings and photographs, 24 Frames is a collection of 24 short four-and-a-half-minute films, an experimental project by filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami in the last three years of his life.

There are several other reasons to watch this film, besides the promise of stunning images on which to feast my hungry eyes and be transported, but I really need no other reason.

JULIAN SCHNABEL – A PRIVATE PORTRAIT (2017): New Documentary About American Painter & Filmmaker Julian Schnabel…

Julian Schnabel - A Private Portrait (2017), Julian Schnabel
Julian Schnabel – A Private Portrait (2017), Julian Schnabel

Julian Schnabel – A Private Portrait is a new Pappi Corsicato-directed documentary about the personal life and public career of New York artist and filmmaker Julian Schnabel.

Willem Dafoe, Al Pacino and Schnabel’s children are some of the featured friends and people closest to him.

I have to confess that the name Julian Schnabel is one I only vaguely recognised before now. It’s news to me that Schnabel cast Javier Bardem in his first big film role (Before Night Falls (2000). How interesting it is to think that without Schnabel, we may not have had the pleasure of enjoying the talents of Bardem quite in the same way as we’ve been able to.

I’m disappointed that this trailer makes it seem as though Schnabel isn’t actually alive but he is, thank goodness. Bring on more of the beautiful art at 0:34 in the trailer.
