NOBODY (2021): The Things I Liked…

Nobody (2021), Bob Odenkirk, Universal Pictures

From the writer of John Wick (2014), Derek Kolstad; action/crime/thriller Nobody is a movie that has some notable scenes. Yet, overall… unpopular opinion warning… I didn’t find it as good/fun as John Wick. Instead, Nobody felt more like a John Wick ‘spinoff.’ Only it’s less cool, less stylish, less fun, and unfortunately a lesser story.

Even with the moments I felt stood out most, specifically the opening song, the brief but cool scene involving Bob Odenkirk’s character’s seated father, and the dialogue plus set-up during the all-important meeting at the Russian club, Nobody still had me feeling far from satisfied.

Director Ilya Naishuller’s vengeance story about a man who is forced to return to his past dangerous activities isn’t exactly new. Furthermore, the way the story is written/delivered didn’t leave me feeling emotionally connected enough to all that was happening. I’d hoped that once the fight sequences began, at least they would be so cool and fun – the way much of John Wick is. I was wrong.

Watch Nobody if you’re curious. It looks like a lot of people enjoyed it. Just don’t be surprised if you like John Wick more. I consider Keanu Reeves’s movie to be more impressive in every way that matters… to me.

NOBODY (2021): New Trailer From Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen, Christopher Lloyd…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of  Nobody (2021).

When you help a woman who’s being harassed by a group of men, one of the things that can happen is you become the target of a vengeful drug lord.

At least that’s the case for Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk) in new action/crime/drama Nobody.

Directed by Ilya Naishuller; additional key cast includes Connie Nielsen and Christopher Lloyd.

The action sequences in this trailer appear fun, cleverly shot and funny. I’m looking forward to finding out the ways in which Nobody is different from Keanu Reeves’s very popular John Wick (2014). Perhaps it’s equally similar and different. Especially considering the revenge plot and the fact that both films share a producer.

Bring on the madness and let’s get back that ‘goddam kitty cat bracelet!’

J.P. Manoux, Paul Essiembre, Humberly González, Araya Mengesha, Gage Munroe, Paisley Cadorath, Aleksey Serebryakov and RZA also star.

Nobody Release Dates: March 26th, 2021 (US), April 23rd, 2021 (UK)…

GIRLFRIEND’S DAY (2017): New Trailer From Bob Odenkirk, Natasha Lyonne, Amber Tamblyn…

Girlfriend's Day (2017), Bob Odenkirk
Girlfriend’s Day (2017), Bob Odenkirk

Girlfriend’s Day which stars Bob Odenkirk,  Natasha Lyonne and Amber Tamblyn takes place in a a world where greeting card writers are celebrated like movie stars. Romance writer Ray (Odenkirk) used to be the king and since becoming a ‘has been’ was never in his plans, he’ll do what ever it takes including getting entangled in a web of murder and deceit to be back on top…

I’m intrigued because it looks different to what most of us can usually expect to be watching on Valentines day and the cast is reliable.

Girlfriend’s Day Release Dates: February 14th 2017 (US)…

HELL & BACK (2015): The Good Things…

Hell & Back (2015), Nick Swardson (Remy), T.J. Miller (Augie)

Set in hell, Mila Kunis, Susan Sarandon, T.J. Miller and Danny McBride make up some of the cast of stop-motion animation adult comedy, Hell & Back.

I definitely smiled more than I laughed as I watched Hell & Back, which I think makes it  a mildly entertaining to quite entertaining movie. This of course isn’t the ideal reaction, but I’m glad I made it to the end.

Hell & Back (2015), Bob Odenkirk (The Devil)
Hell & Back (2015), Bob Odenkirk (The Devil)

Directed by Tom Gianas and Ross Shuman, I enjoyed the voice work and some funny moments such as all the dialogue of the character responsible for welcoming residents to hell and administering torture. I think that Augie, the one that ‘looks like he only eats dough’ is cute in a perfectly adorably cuddly way. There’s also a great joke about cat owners that I won’t spoil.

Overall, the devil, played by Bob Odenkirk is definitely my favourite character. Reason being, his voice, his dialogue and the physicality of the devil when sporting his red ‘suit.’

Tune in for a non-demanding stop-motion comedy, especially if you don’t mind plenty of expletives and adult dialogue.
