Apocalyptic films are here to stay, people! Here comes one more starring Chloe Grace Moretz.
The 5th Wave is intriguing. However,I like Moretz best in the original Kick-Ass (2010) movie. I found her performance just ‘so, so’ inIfI Stay (2014). My fingers are crossed that The 5th Wave surprises me most pleasantly.
Live Schreiber, Maika Monroe, Ron Livingston, Maria Bello and Nick Robinson also star.
Directed by R.J. Cutler and based on a best-selling book by Gayle Forman, If I Stay is the story of a teenage girl named Mia (Chloe Grace Moretz) who’s chasing her dreams of a music career. All with the support of a loving boyfriend, family and friends.
Mia’s world is turned upside down after an accident leaves her and several other people in a bad way. Now stuck in a coma, Mia is faced with the most important decision of her life.
Though certainly not a perfect movie, there were parts that I enjoyed in If I Stay. Two of the best scenes featured Mia and her grandpa. Namely the scene where he talks to her in the car and the one when he’s in the hospital by her bedside.
If I Stay (2014), Jamie Blackley, Liana Liberato
Jamie Blackley’s performance as Adam, Liana Liberato in the role of the best friend and the actors playing Mia’s family are good. I did however find myself not entirely buying into the anguish portrayed by Moretz after the accident. Something to do with the absence of tears perhaps.
Did anyone else find themselves expecting Mia to be able to walk through people and walls in the hospital? She wasn’t technically a ghost so maybe it’s just me.
Watch If I Stay if you find yourself very curious indeed, especially since the concept is rather interesting.
Director Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington’s The Equalizer makes me think ofTaken (2008)and Taxi Driver (1976). It’s unsurprising since all three films feature young girls who end up in very unfortunate predicaments, but luckily for them, an individual takes it upon themselves to do everything they can to make things right.
I love stories like this because not many who find themselves in such precarious situations are as lucky. As always, seeing ‘baddies’ get what they deserve is fun to watch. I mean, I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I was at the end of Bryan De Palma’s Carrie (1976).
The Equaliser (2014), Denzel Washington, Chloë Grace Moretz
If you’re familiar with Washington, let’s face it, there are few who aren’t, then you know you’re in for a fun ride. Laced with action, good dialogue and Denzel style ‘badassery,’ The Equalizer will keep you entertained.
One of the most memorable moments for me was the swift move with the gun at Pushkin’s warehouse. It’s so very quick and just as impressive each time I hit the replay button. I also love the music that starts at approximately 1 hour 45 minutes.
