Starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Sasha Lane, Jennifer Ehle, Quinn Shephard, and directed by Desiree Akhavan; The Miseducation Of Cameron Post is the story of a teenage girl who was forced into a gay conversion therapy centre by her conservative guardians.

I’m in because it looks like a well-acted role by Moretz, a good thing since the story is so interesting and based on true events.

And yes, every single time I read the title of this movie I think of The Miseducation Of Lauren Hill, a brilliant album.

I LOVE YOU, DADDY (2017): New Trailer From Louis C.K., Helen Hunt, John Malkovich, Chloe Grace Moretz…

In I Love you Daddy, stand up comic Louis C.K. is a successful television writer whose daughter becomes the interest of an ageing filmmaker with an appalling past.

Written and directed by C.K.; Helen Hunt, John Malkovich, Chloe Grace Moretz and Rose Byrne star.

I can try and imagine the various ways Louis C.K.’s character is going to try and deal with the situation, but I’m sure the way he executes will turn out better than what I picture.

As a big fan of his stand-up comedy and television show, Louie 2010-2015, before even reading the synopsis, I’d already decided to watch. Louis C.K. is one of my favourite comics, after all.

I Love You, Daddy Release Dates: November 17th, 2017 (US)…

NEIGHBORS 2 – SORORITY RISING: The Thing I Liked…

Neighbors 2 - Sorority Rising (2016), Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne
Neighbors 2 – Sorority Rising (2016), Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne

I remember watching Neighbors (2014) and not liking it enough to write anything worthwhile. I wasn’t in love with the Neighbors 2 – Sorority Rising trailer either, at first, but it grew on me after a week.

Fast forward to now having seen the sequel, the film suffers from the dreaded sequel disease of repetition. Though certainly not to the levels that My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 did this year, ‘suffer’ it certainly does.

As per the original movie, this one too is directed by Nicholas Stoller. A second bit of good news is that none of the performances by the stars including Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Zac Efron, Dave Franco, or Chloë Grace Moretz were bad. I just wasn’t much amused. In fact, I’m certain that most of my laughing happened during the Neighbors 2 trailer.

Try as I must, I managed to find something I enjoyed about the movie and that is the message(s) at the end – however forced they may have felt.

From here on, the Neighbors 2 experience is going to be placed firmly behind me. Especially, as I get busy re-watching my favourite of Rogen’s work;  Pineapple Express (2008), This Is The End (2013) and The Interview (2014). There’s also the wonderfully inappropriate Sausage Party (2016) to get excited and hopeful about.

I’m starting to wonder why it is that I seem to find myself enjoying Rogen’s Newer work less and less. I wasn’t even able to make it through the first third of The Night Before (2015) before needing to bail because I didn’t buy into any of the character’s actions. Am I simply getting too old and therefore no longer the target market? Have I watched so many of his movies, or, movies in general that very little is new to me anymore? Has my taste altered that much?

All I know at this point is that whatever the answer, thank goodness for the early work.

NEIGHBORS 2 (2016): Fun Trailer Starring Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne…

Neighbors 2 (2016) Ike Barinholtz, Zac Efron, Seth Rogen
Neighbors 2 (2016) Ike Barinholtz, Zac Efron, Seth Rogen

Neighbors 2 is the sequel to Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne and Zac Efron’s Neighbors (2014). The latter being a movie about new parents who are forced to live next door to a loud, partying-at-all-hours type of fraternity.

In the second instalment, again, directed by Nicholas Stoller, the young couple’s new problem is the Sorority next door.

I must admit that the first film isn’t one of my favourites of Rogen’s comedies, even though his character’s reaction to the baby/condom scene is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen in a film/trailer. It’s up there, not too far from the pooping in street scene in Bridesmaids (2011).

I’ve decided that, like a young so and so who must not let their past failed relationships stop them from getting involved in something that could be amazing, I’m going to dive into Neighbours 2Sorority Rising (2016) with reasonably more than average expectations. Call me foolish.

May I please, not be filled with regret post viewing.

Neighbors 2 Release Dates: May 20th, 2016 (US); June 16th, 2016 (IT); July 6th, 2016 (FR)…

THE 5TH WAVE (2016): The Things I…

The 5th Wave (2016), Chloë Grace Moretz
The 5th Wave (2016), Chloë Grace Moretz

Starring Chloe Grace Moretz, The 5th Wave, a story about aliens trying to claim our planet as their own is a film that could have been so very good. But instead I found it boring, unsurprising and lazy.

My key issues with the movie lie in the script, editing, performances, story and  general execution. It ended up feeling like a film that was rushed and made long before the story and script were ever properly ready.

Performance-wise I can’t really fault Liev Schreiber and a few others. Chloe Grace Moretz on the other hand… I’ve seen her in four movies so far. For two of those films I have zero complaints. But for the other two, one of which is The 5th Wave, I found her performance to be varying levels of unconvincing. To be fair, Moretz isn’t the only one that I feel didn’t adequately embody their character, but she is the key protagonist, hence my focus.

One unfortunate script/editing faux pas that sticks to mind happens towards the end, as three characters converse. One of them, let’s call him person A; he says, ‘My plan is to do such and such.’ All three people continue to talk amongst themselves for a minute. Person A then leaves. Within a few seconds, person B says to person C, ‘We better go, because I think person A is going to do such and such’. In my mind I’m thinking ‘Er… there should be no thinking he’s going to do it, because he just told you he’s going to do it, no?!

My disappointment had now peaked, but still, I calmed down enough to recognise that the main target market for The 5th Wave is clearly young adults and teenagers. in other words, not me. As such I wonder what they think about it all. What are their thoughts on the seemingly forced romance/ love triangle that unfortunately is just too much like The Hunger Games (2012)?

Mad is not how I’d feel if I were to find out that a sequel to The 5th Wave is not going to happen. Of course, that all depends on how much money this movie, however bad it may be, actually made.

Directed by J Blakeson and based on the book by Rick Yancey. The 5th Wave is a film you watch if you absolutely must. Otherwise, honestly, just enjoy the trailer instead.
