In the new Jeff Orlowski-directed documentary Chasing Coral, a team of divers, photographers and scientists set out on an ocean adventure.

Their purpose is to pinpoint why Coral reefs around the world are vanishing at an unprecedented rate.

I don’t have a passion for the ocean, but I respect it, admire its beauty and the contents within.

I sometimes forget that corals are living, breathing creatures. Part of me looks at them as ‘flowers of the ocean’. The idea that they may be eradicated one day makes me think of a world above the ocean sans flowers; a rather sobering thought.

I’ll be watching Chasing Coral to learn a few things. In the most part, though, I’m tuning in to appreciate the beauty of the big blue.
