In director Adrian Shergold’s Funny Cow, Maxine Peake stars as a female comedian standing up to a violent husband and the sexist Northern England club circuit.

Also starring Christine Bottomley and Stephen Graham, Shergold promises a film about the power of laughter and how to transform pain into humour.
