Sollers Point centres around Keith, a small-time drug dealer under house arrest in a community scarred by unemployment, neglect and deeply entrenched segregation. Keith must push back against his surrounding limitations to try and find a way out of his own internal prison.

Directed by Matthew Porterfield; McCaul Lombardi, Jim Belushi, Zazie Beetz, Tom Guiry and Imani Hakim star…

After watching this trailer, I’m already desperate for Keith to succeed and not become a number in the recidivism statistic. With a stable support system like he seems to have, my fingers are firmly crossed.

Assuming that Keith does succeed, what will happen with the people he’s indebted to, the ones who made sure he made it out of prison alive? I will watch for answers and because this is a trailer – and I’m quite sure, a leading role well done.

AMERICAN HONEY (2016): New Trailer From Andrea Arnold, Shia LaBeouf & Sasha Lane

Starring Shia laBeouf, Sasha Lane, and written / directed by Andrea Arnold, American Honey tells the story of teenage misfits in a travelling magazine sales crew…

I clicked on the trailer because I saw Labeouf’s name but I kept on watching because of Sasha Lane. Even though the movie won the coveted  Jury Prize at the 2016 Cannes Film, I realised that the trailer wasn’t doing much to convince me to see it. Reason being, there doesn’t seem to be much that’s particularly new about the story. Selena Gomez and James Franco’s  Spring Breakers (2013) came to mind as something potentially similar.

Maybe we’ll all be pleasantly surprised. I’d love for my initial impression to be wrong. Maybe I’ll find out soon.

American Honey Release Dates September 30th, 2016 (US); October 14th, 2016 (UK)…
