‘Good’ and ‘worth watching’ are not words to describe Back in Action, Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz’s latest action/comedy.
Though the story of a former CIA couple getting pulled back into espionage after fifteen years away may have a small number of memorable moments (none worth highlighting, mind you), director Seth Gordon’s effort is nothing we haven’t seen before.
Even worse, Diaz and Foxx’s dynamic is awkward. The only sort of saving grace is that the film becomes a tad more fun when the former spy’s covers are blown.
Two small highlights are Andrew Scott and Glenn Close. That’s sadly it.
In case it wasn’t already clear, Back in Action is one to watch ‘only if you absolutely must.’ Otherwise, the rather similar The Family Plan (2023) is actually better. Hopefully, Love Hurts (2025), an upcoming movie with a similar premise, will be an improvement.
Happy Film Loving,
