Hope is a new mystery/action/sci-fi/thriller about a discovery made in a remote harbour town. One that results in a desperate fight to survive.

Writen/directed by Na Hong-jin, key cast includes Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Michael Fassbender and Hoyeon.

‘Wait, is this a video game? Is this AI?’ These are just some of the thoughts that crossed my mind as this trailer played. Another was ‘Go, humans! Since this is clearly a fight-for-survival kind of movie.

The special effects and creative action shots really have me interested. Perhaps I will, especially as this isn’t categorised as a horror film.

Is it looking promising to you, too?

Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton and Eum Moon-suk also star.

Director Simon Kinberg’s X-Men – Dark Phoenix has a good looking new trailer.

Starring Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Sophie Turner, X-Men – Dark Phoenix is all about their team member Jean Grey’s new incredible corrupting powers and how the rest of the X-Men deal with it.

I’m in to enjoy the stunning visual effects and find out if Jean Grey will fully embrace her dark side. Before doing all that though, I’m a tad behind so I just need to watch all the movies after X-Men First Class (2011).

Evan Peters, Alexandra Shipp, Ato Essandoh, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Summer Fontana also star.

In X-Men Dark Phoenix, the X-Men must decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world. Reason being, Jean Grey has began to develop incredible corrupting powers that will turn her into a Dark Phoenix.

Directed by Simon Kinberg; key cast includes James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Sophie Turner.

I just recently finished watching Captain America – Civil War (2016) and the plot of Dark Phoenix reminds me of  it. I’m blaming that for my slightly subdued enthusiasm. Well, that and the fact that this trailer didn’t quite induce the expected yelp of excitement it’s predecessors did.

I actually thought that the Lawrence, McAvoy and Fassbender phase of X-Men had been wrapped up. I’m not mad that it hasn’t yet, but I just wish that overall, this trailer had me more excited.

My favourite line so far is ‘I’ve seen evil, and I’m looking at it now.’ It’s therefore unsurprising that what I’m most excited about overall is Sophie Turners ‘good girl gone bad’ performance.

Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, Alexandra Shipp, Ato Essandoh and Summer Fontana also star.

The Snowman is a new crime/horror/drama based on the bestselling book by Jo Nesbø, and stars Michael Fassbender as detective Harry Hole.

Hole investigates the disappearance of a woman whose pink scarf is found wrapped around an ominous-looking snowman. Directed by Tomas Alfredson; Rebecca Ferguson, Chloë Sevigny and Val Kilmer also star.

I’m a big fan of Fassbender and Ferguson. This looks so good to me that I can hardly wait.

Additional supporting cast includes J.K. Simmons ,Jamie Clayton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, James D’Arcy, Toby Jones, and Sofia Helin.

The Light Between Oceans is directed by Derek Cianfrance and based on M.L. Stedman’s novel about a couple raising the baby they rescued from a drifting rowing boat. The performances from Rachel Weisz, Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander are all good.

For me, The Light Between Oceans is a beautiful romance. Though definitely heartbreaking and featuring a number of morally questionable acts, the idea of the love between the lead characters as portrayed by Fassbender and Vikander is beautiful.

On account of the repercussions that resulted from the questionable acts in this movie, by the end I was well and truly reminded of the importance of properly thinking through the options we allow ourselves to be coerced into choosing. Especially when the blindness of love and an all-consuming desperation are thrown into the mix. The portrayal of this, for me, is a key highlight of this film. I also very much enjoyed Vikander’s character’s forwardness where her love life is concerned. Refreshing is one word for it.

On balance, I can’t say that I was able to enjoy The Light Between Oceans as much as I could have and that’s partly because the trailer revealed too much, which in turn contributed to the end result being quite unexciting. I suppose what I may never know is just how much more thrilling I may have found this movie had I never seen the trailer.

Watch it if you absolutely must. Just don’t misremember and think that I said ‘you absolutely should’.
