John Crowley is the director of We Live in Time, the latest drama/romance starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield.

It all starts with a chance encounter that leads to the decade-long love story of an up-and-coming chef and a recent divorcée.

Several thoughts: I love their meet cute. This trailer edit and use of music are beautiful. But, I’m not necessarily sure I’ll watch it and that’s largely because I’m guaranteed to boohoo if I do and I’m just not looking for that right now. Additionally, The Fault In Our Stars (2024) still feels fresh to me and the two films seem to have some commonalities.

Conversely, with trailer moments like the one that starts at 1:34 seconds and beautiful words such as ‘I’m guilty of looking ahead instead of, right in front of me, at you;’ maybe I’ll get over my hesitations. After all, I am a big fan of ‘the Pugh’, especially since her work in Midsommar (2019).

From writer/director Ari Aster, Midsommar is a new horror/mystery starring  Florence Pugh, Will Poulter, William Jackson Harper and Jack Reynor. 

Things start to go awry on a summer trip after a young woman reluctantly caves in and goes along with her boyfriend.

First of all, I really rather like the illustrations in this trailer. I’m also interested because of the cast and my curiosity about the young woman’s initial reluctance. Clearly sometimes, if not all the time, one really ought to trust one’s instincts.

Archie Madekwe, Julia Ragnarsson, Björn Andrésen, Anna Åström and Henrik Norlén also star.

In Fighting With My Family, a former wrestler whose kids dream of joining World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) are given the opportunity of a lifetime.

Written/directed by Stephen Merchant, this is the true story of  Saraya-Jade Bevis, a.k.a. former WWE wrestler Paige.

Key cast includes Dwayne Johnson, Florence Pugh, Vince Vaughn and Nick Frost.

At first I wasn’t sure about this, but then the humour came and I realised that Dwayne was playing himself. Another element I’m drawn to is the sister’s journey after she gets picked.

Lastly, I’m curious about Merchant as a feature film director.

Hannah Rae, Paul Wight, Kim Matula, Jack Lowden and Stephen Merchant also star.
