Directed by Tim Story, Shaft is the latest crime / action movie starring once again Samuel L. Jackson as New York City police detective John Shaft.

Shaft’s son John Shaft Jr. (Jessie T. Usher) is in town to enlist his father’s help to uncover the truth behind his best friend’s untimely death.

I don’t remember seeing the Shaft movies that came before this new instalment. All I know is that so far, I like the humour. Especially Shaft’s response to his son’s reference to James Bond: ”If that dude was real, he’d think he was me.‘

Written and directed by Tina Gordon Chism, Little is a new comedy starring Issa Rae, Regina Hall, Justin Hartley and Marsai Martin.

The story centres around a woman having difficulty with the pressures of adulthood, and somehow gets to relive the life of her younger self…

As a fan of both Rae and Hall, I’m definitely watching this one and I’m more than ready for the comedy, colourful fashion, boss action, etc.

Tone Bell, Caleb Emery, JD McCrary, Mikey Day and Abbie Gayle also star.

Starring Marlon Wayans, Regina Hall and Dennis Haysbert , Naked is all about a soon to be groom who is nervous about his big day and is forced to relive the same nerve-wracking hours over and over again until he gets things right on his wedding day…

Directed by  Michael Tiddes, I want to see this one because I have fond memories of Marlon Wayans after watching Senseless (1998) in my early youth. I also actually  like this trailer. It seems to get more and more amusing with each viewing. The magic is in the way he gives up.

Loretta Devine, Cory Hardrict and Dave Sheridan also star.

Girls Trip is the latest movie from Malcolm D. Lee; writer and director of two good movies The Best Man (1999) and The Best Man Holiday (2013).

Starring Jada Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish, Girls Trip is the story of a road trip with four childhood best friends where, (according to the original Rotten Tomatoes’ synopsis) at some point a betrayal is revealed.

Now that there may not be a betrayal story after all, I’m still looking forward to finding out just how different this will be compared to The Best Man.

Whatever the similarities and differences, I’m sure that Girls Trip will be good because The Best Man (1999) and The Best Man Holiday (2013) were very well done.
