Directed by Michael Tiddes, Scary Movie is a parody/spoof comedy of the most popular horror films of recent years, a follow-up to Scary Movie (2000), and its four sequels.

Written by Craig Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Rick Alvarez, the key cast includes Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Marlon Wayans and Sydney Park.

This is probably the kind of scary film I can look forward to, since it leads with humour rather than horror. At least that’s what I hope, especially since I don’t remember much about the original Scary Movie films.

Hopefully, as an infrequent watcher of horror, I’ll still appreciate many, if not all the jokes.

Justin Tipping is the director of Him, a new sports/horror film about a young, talented football player (Tyriq Withers), who signs up to be trained by an ageing quarterback (Marlon Wayans) at a remote compound.

Another movie to remind us all that ‘remote’ can often mean unsafe and cult-ish. I hope this young athlete makes it out in one piece. It’s looking like that may not happen, due to the Midsommar (2019)-type nightmare-inducing vibes this is giving.

Midsommar didn’t actually give me nightmares, but it was very uncomfortable and emotionally taxing.

I’m curious about Wayans’s performance. Whether I watch this or not, I hope it turns out great. That way, I may try to watch it, but with zero guarantees I’ll make it to the end.

Read my spoiler-free movie review of  On the Rocks (2020).

Set in New York City, the latest comedy/adventure from director Sofia Coppola stars Bill Murray, Rashida Jones and Marlon Wayans.

On the Rocks follows Laura (Jones), a young mother as she reconnects with her larger-than-life playboy father.

Looks like a perfect role for Murray. The humour, setting and director are the reasons I’m most interested. I’m also invested in the story and need to find out what Dean is really up to.

Jenny Slate, Jessica Henwick, Barbara Bain, Nadia Dajani, Musto Pelinkovicci, Jules Willcox, Alexandra Mary Reimer, Evangeline Young, Chase Sui Wonders, Mike Keller and Ximena Lamadrid also star.

The latest trailer for Respect, a Liesl Tommy-directed Aretha Franklin biography starring Jennifer Hudson, Marlon Wayans and Forest Whitaker, has finally arrived.

Besides the music and Hudson’s acting talents, I’m most looking forward to watching Franklin coming into her power.

Also, hopefully the way her most iconic song ‘Respect’ came to to be is captured in a way that’s as moving as what Rocketman (2019) did for my favourite Elton John single,’Your Song.’

Lodric D. Collins, Tituss Burgess, Victoria Paige Watkins, Joshua Mikel, Marc Maron, Jamaal Burcher and Saycon Sengbloh also star.

Sextuplets is a new comedy starring Marlon Wayans as Alan, a father-to-be who learns that he has five other siblings he’s never met. Alan decides that when his baby arrives, he’ll track down all his siblings.

Additional key cast includes Molly Shannon, Bresha Webb and Glynn Turman.

A day is going to come when I’m in the mood for some silliness. And when that day comes, I’ll hit play on this very movie and hope for the best.

I wonder how Sextuplets will hold up when compared to Eddie Murphy’s The Nutty Professor (1996)? A movie where Murphy played several characters of his onscreen family, Just like Wayans is doing here.

For a second I actually thought that the ‘stripper sister’ may have been Tiffany Haddish in a fat suit but, but no.

Debbi Morgan, Michael Ian Black, Robert Pralgo, Damon Vance, Jwaundace Candece, Scott Hunter, Patti Schellhaas, Ruben Vidal and LeBron Daniel also star.
