UNLOCKED (2017): New Trailer From Orlando Bloom, Noomi Rapace, Toni Collette…

Noomi Rapace, Orlando Bloom and Toni Collette are just two of the stars of new Michael Apted-directed action/thriller Unlocked.

Set in London, England, Rapace plays a CIA interrogator lured into a ruse that could lead to a London based biological attack.

I find myself quite happy to see Bloom in this movie because it looks as though he’ll be playing a different character compared to the roles we’ve come to expect.

Also, Rapace as an action star is a good look, especially based on the above video thumbnail looks.

Fingers crossed the end result is good. It must be right? I mean, John Malkovich and  Michael Douglas are involved.

Unlocked Release Dates: May 5th 2017 (UK)…

CHILD 44 (2015): Tom Hardy Shines, As Expected…

Child 44 (2015), Tom Hardy
Child 44 (2015), Tom Hardy

Child 44 is a Stalin-era Soviet Union crime/thriller directed by Daniel Espinosa.

Based on Tom Rob Smith’s best-selling book of the same name; Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Noomi Rapace, Vincent Cassel and Joel Kinnaman are the stars.

My main motivation for watching the movie isn’t reading the book because  I haven’t, but the intriguing story. Particularly Hardy’s role as a determined investigator of a series of gruesome child murders. Murders that are taking place during a time when the powers that be refused to admit that murder is even a real thing.

I wanted Child 44 to be as thrilling as the trailer hinted. However, I did find myself wishing for a quicker pace, a shorter film, less distracting accents and an overall better/more thrilling execution.

All the lacking elements aside, Hardy’s performance is good and one of my favourite things about the movie. The other is the ending and the tension filled scene on the moving train.

You may be compelled to watch Child 44 because you’ve read the book and or you’re a Tom Hardy fan; one who wants to see how he was able to deliver a notable physical and emotional performance, in spite of the questionable Russian accents. To that I say, follow your curiosity. I did and I have no regrets, I just simply wish that the general result had been better.

THE DROP (2014): It’s Good, People. It’s Good…

Starring two spectacular screen talents in the shape of the late James Gandolfini and British actor Tom Hardy; The Drop is an expertly executed film.

In the dark and grim criminal underworld of Brooklyn, New York; where director Michaël R. Roskam’s crime/thriller is set; there’s a brilliant stillness. The kind that lets you know that much more is bubbling below the surface than meets the eye.

The Drop features the type of tension that’s perfectly thrilling, and certainly best experienced through a screen rather than in person.

I enjoyed all the performances by every cast member. However, it’s the scenes that feature Hardy, Schoenaerts and Gandolfini that you won’t soon forget. There’s also the notable musical score; a perfect accompaniment for the many highly engaging predicaments in which the characters find themselves.

Watch The Drop for the well-executed story because chances are, you won’t regret it.

Lastly, you may even find yourself wondering if it has ever been easier to like the ‘bad guy.’ Watch it and learn.

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Child 44 (2015).

The trailer for Child 44 is the reason I was yelping with uncontrollable joy today.

Deservedly, there’s been some talk about the authenticity of the Russian accents. As for me, I’m hoping for the best and I’m happy to watch the talented cast, including Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Vincent Cassel and Noomi Rapace do their thing.

I can’t wait to see this very interesting story unfold.

Happy Film Loving,
