IN THE TALL GRASS (2019): The Things I Liked…

In The Tall Grass (2019), Laysla De Oliveira, Netflix

The story of In The Tall Grass centres around a sister and brother who venture into a vast field of tall grass, only to discover that there may be no way out.

Based on a novella that’s co-written by Stephen King, director Vincenzo Natali’s drama / horror / thriller definitely starts off with promise. It then goes on to deliver some quite satisfying twists and turns, but ultimately ends up losing its way and becoming more watchable than memorable.

Part of the reason I didn’t find In The Tall Grass to be great overall is that the story doesn’t come together in a way that made me fully buy into it all. Nevertheless, I do have a favourite thing about this movie and that is the performance by talented young actor Will Buie Jr. who plays Tobin. Also, is it just me who thinks that Buie Jr. kind of resembles Michael Douglas somehow? I digress.

Though In The Tall Grass is definitely not the best drama / horror / thriller of 2019, it’s also not the worst; nor is it ‘nightmare inducing scary’. Give it a chance if you’re so curious.

IN THE TALL GRASS (2019): New Trailer Starring Patrick Wilson, Avery Whitted, Laysla De Oliveira, Harrison Gilbertson…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of In The Tall Grass (2019).

Based on the novel by Stephen King and Joe Hill; director Vincenzo Natali’s In The Tall Grass is a new horror / thriller starring Patrick Wilson, Avery Whitted, Laysla De Oliveira and Harrison Gilbertson.

It’s the story of a sister and brother who venture into a vast field of tall grass, after hearing a young boy’s cry for help – but only to realise that there may be no way out…

I can’t help but wonder, is there actually a novelist who’s had more films made based on their books than Stephen King? I think not.

I want to see this one because I’m curious about where King’s imagination will take us this time.

On a related note, if a stranger is asking for help from within a field of tall grass while I’m on the edge of it, I’d like to believe that not only am I NOT going to enter the tall grass; but what I’d like to think I’d do instead is ask questions first. You know, important questions that the emergency services I’ll be calling instead will need answers to. That all make some sense in my head. That is until I realise that the voice asking for help belongs to a seemingly helpless child.

And just like that, into the tall grass I go… to never be seen again.

Rachel Wilson ,Avery Whitted, Will Buie Jr. and Tiffany Helm also star.

In The Tall Grass Release Dates: Oct 4th, 2019 (US) , Netflix / Internet…

MIDWAY (2019): New Trailer From Patrick Wilson, Ed Skrein, Mandy Moore, Woody Harrelson…

Midway (2019), Patrick Wilson

Director Roland Emmerich’s Midway stars Patrick Wilson, Ed Skrein, Mandy Moore and Woody Harrelson, in the story of the WWII clash between the American fleet and the Imperial Japanese Navy.

Based on the real-life events of the heroic feat, the focus is on the leaders and soldiers who used their instincts, fortitude and bravery to overcome the odds…

I’m not usually one to gravitate towards war movies but the arresting visuals in this trailer have my attention.

I’m also interested in the hierarchical politics that had to take place, particularly how it was handled by the people on the ground.

Aaron Ekhart, Nick Jonas, Alexander Ludwig, Dennis Quaid, Darren Criss, Jake Weber, James Carpinello, Jake Manley, Luke Kleintank and Keean Johnson also star.

Midway Release Dates: November 8th, 2019 (US & UK)…

Liam Neeson, Vera Farmiga, Sam Neill, Patrick Wilson, and Dean-Charles Chapman are the the stars of The Commuter; a Jaume Collet-Serra directed mystery/ thriller about a businessman caught up in a criminal conspiracy during his daily commute home.

Filmically speaking, I’ll pretty much follow Liam Neeson anywhere – because of Taken (2018).

It also helps that this trailer looks especially good, as do the very beautiful shoes on Vera Farmiga’s feet.

The Commuter Release Dates: January 12, 2018 (US); January 19th, 2018 (UK)…
